...just wondering if anybody has performed a tube upgrade (NOS) on a GT Brick mic pre...if so please respond with any comments...12AT7 and 6072 vintage tubes seem to improve the sound on some of the cheaper tube mics, so I would assume some improvement would be achieved by doing the same for the mic pre (in this case 12AU7 and 12AT7)...anybody know who makes the stock GT tubes used in the Brick?...are they Soviet/Chinese sourced?...what's the deal?...

As Groove Tubes is a tube company, I'm pretty sure they use their own tubes in the Brick, which are certainly decent quality. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Groove tubes is a tube relabeler AFAIK. They used to get their tubes from Sovtec and Chinese manufacturers as well. That being said, the relabeled tubes are usually decent quality

...Sovtek and Chinese manufactured tubes are also what is commonly used as stock tubes in Rodes, MXL, Oktava, Apex, Nady and other inexpensive tube mics...upgrading those mics to better quality NOS tubes (Siemens, Telefunken, Amperex, Mullard, etc.) seems to improve the sound of those mics, so it would follow that the Brick would also see some improvement as well...has anyone given the "upgrade" a try?...
