Here is an unbelievable stupid sounding problem regarding string breakage, but it's true:
I just bought a new Ibanez SoundGear 5 string, and it sounds great. The problem? I've gone through 4 G strings in the past 2 months (yeah, I know, that really sounds great, doesn't it). They seem to break all the time, particularly when I'm tuning up. I've had other bases and used all the string brands, and this is the strangest problem I've ever encountered. And it's an annoying one at that. Typically, the string simply unravels right at the tuning key, or the bridge. And no, there are no burrs on the key that are cutting the string. I checked that first.
If anyone has any ideas why this is happening, I'd like to know. As I have said, it is just the G that has the problem. One thing to note is that when I do have the bass successfully tuned, the G seems a lot tighter than the other strings.
_ I've got a lot of incomplete string sets lying around, if any of you want to borrow a few....
