Grindcore/Death need feedback on mix

Right you are, I did compensate. It seemed if I left them at the levels they were, the drums began to be drowned out. Any advice there? Keep in mind my drum tracks are merely a stereo pair panned out hard left and right. Also I would like to bring up the snare a bit but since it is part of the stereo pair drum track. Any EQ settings I can use to bring the snare out?

gits, you kinda overcompensated, just a little. it makes sense thast you would have to turn them down a little to keep them from getting louder, you just went to far.

snare, maby a narrow bump at about 2K??????????, maby?
that's a tough one.
 
So how close would anyone say this is coming to a commercial mix?
 
Dude, I never meant to sound overly critical or anything.....cause I think this already sounds better than alot of death metal on the shelves!

...not sure if the term "comercial" fits here tho if you know what I mean. :D

Vesuvius, can you copy each half of the stereo drum track to two mono tracks? That's what I do with my imported drum tracks. Import them to stereo track 9-10. Copy 9 to mono 5 and 10 to mono 6. Once I have them on mono tracks I can pan them individually. I usually pan them somewhere between my guitars(which I pan hard R&L) and my vocals and bass(straight up the middle). This seems to open things up a bit for everything. Right now it seems like to many things are competing for the same space in the stereo spectrum. Doing this works really well for me. Good luck. Vesuvius, you might consider doing the mp3 conversion at a higher resolution - 192 at least. I don't see how the rhythmic articulation can come through otherwise given the intensity and density of the mix - regardless of what you do with balancing levels and panning. Just a thought. I've enjoyed listening to it.

Any thoughts on what an aspiring engineer might do to bring his skills up to par with the pros? Short of buying a half a million dollars worth of gear. HEHE
 
i've lots to learn too, keep that in mind.

short of awsome source material (everything falls together when the stuff you are recording sounds good to begin with THAT is the most important thing)

take time with mic choice and placement.

....sorry man, that's all i got.
