would you be interested in a lucrative trade, or do you want cash only?

Thanks for the replies:

It is the Standard MP-2. It has transformer balanced inputs, but unbalanced outputs.

I don't think I want a trade at this point. Since I lost my recording motivation, I am trying to finance other hobbies. I also have an Earthworks LAB102 that I am keeping in case my motivation returns.

In fact, I bought the E-wks and MP-2 at nearly the same time, when i was on a preamp binge :). Other than making a couple of test recordings, I didn't use the MP-2 at all, and used the E-wks almost exclusively for about 3 months thereafter.

It is not that the E-wks is superior to the MP-2, but I use E-wks microphones also. There seemed to be some "rightness" about using them as a set :)

If you get serious, e-mail me and I can supply the Serial No. and the vendor I bought it from for corroboration and security.

Thanks,
Rick

hey,

I'm emailing you now. Please reply A.S.A.P

Peace.

btw, I remember now that you were the guy who posted the mp3 of guitar recorded with qtc1's. Best acoutsic I've ever heard.

Bruce: Just as a theoretical point: Why is unbalanced of no use to you ?
Dan Kennedy, himself, is a strong advocate of unbalanced outputs, because they have higher fidelity. It is the input stage of each component of the recording chain that (mainly) determines the amount of common mode noise rejection. So inputs should be balanced for sure. Outputs should be balanced only if you like the tonal coloration of an additional transformer in the chain. Active balancing is a less expensive option, but has its own set of tonal colorations.

A theoretical discussion of noise and transformers can be found at the Jensen Transformers page.

In fact, Dan once wrote on a discussion of this subject that he challenged anyone to tell from sound only whether an output of his preamps was balanced or unbalanced.

I certainly wouldn't be able to, but maybe you are aware of other reasons to want a balanced output.

Peace,
Rick

Because virtually my entire system is fully-balanced..... and connecting an unbalanced line into a balanced system results in an instant 6db drop of signal level.

Good point, Bruce !
That is about the only drawback I can think of. Of course most modern equipment has enough gain available and low-enough noise that an additional 6 dB can easily be made up somewhere if needed. I guess everything in life, music, and recording has some compromises involved ! :)

Bumping to the top.
Still available.
Don't make me post this on one of the big boards and put up with the loonies that may respond from there. :(

Hmmmm...

Sorry, I am not interested in the pre (I'm a bottom-feeder and there are so many other things I need first), but I would like to hear the mp3 that CJ called "the best acoustic I've ever heard". Could you post the link? It would be greatly appreciated. Hope you find a buyer soon.

Thanks

Sorry, cardiopotent; I pulled the MP3s because of MP3.com's
crappy policies. I never got motivated to find another site. If you email me your address I'll send you a real CD. (MP3 sounds crappy anyway !)

FOR ALL: THE PREAMP IS NOW SOLD !!!
