im using km184, brauner phantom , and cheaper mics.

im thinking to buy http://www.daking.com/micpreiv.html but still xpensive to buy

has anyone xperience with other preamps. especially to record on location.

any feedback is mostly welcome

tnx Peter

Peter,

I have the Sytek 4-pack (model MPX-4A) which I feel delivers clean neutral sound with good headroom.

You can buy as 'normal' or with Burr-Brown circuits in the path of all 4 channels (half and half is possible too.)

http://www.sytek-audio-systems.com/products/preamps/mpx4/

So about $1800 or so plus shipping could get you 8 channels of that.

Good luck,
Claus.

Sytek, Sebatron VMP-4000e, DAV BG-2, API 3124, Grace, GML 8304, SSL Alpha VHD4, and John Hardy, among others, all have or are quality 4 channel pres.

Or you could get a lunch box and stuff it with 500 series modules.

Read your other replies first, since the posters all appear to know a great deal more than I do on the subject. But since you mentioned recording on location, I should say that I'm very happy with my Black Lion Audio modified MOTU Traveler (4 pres, and 4 non-preamped analog inputs, and some digital inputs - and it's really a firewire interface, not a dedicated preamp, of course). True to its name, it's very portable. Prior to the modification, I wouldn't have mentioned it, because the pres were edgy/phasey/flaky, but now it sounds very good to me and has been very dependable. But be sure to consider the higher end units mentioned in the other posts, too.
