Got this soundcard from a friend

i got the Event ECho Gina 20 from a buddy who just got the m-audio 1010. Anyway is this gina any good? it has a breakout box with 2 inputs and 8 outputs. I am just going to be recording vocals and acoustic guitar. If i Need a mixer for this to work what should i get? I just got the SP B1 mic so I need phantom,too. Do i need a separate preamp with phantom? give me the deal to get up and running.

the echo gina is a very good card......

if you get a mixer, the preamps on it will probably have phantom power....which one you get depends on your budget.....the cheapest id start with is the Yamaha MG series, starting at $99......very solid boards......

I agree with Gidge except I still think the Behringer mixers are a good deal for the money. Heck, you can get one < $50.

The only worry with the Gina is if it has drivers available for the Windows system you are running.

Be aware that the cheapest Behringer (the 502) does not have phantom power

but the UB802 has 2 preamps with phantom power and its only 50 bucks.....mine works like a good little sound whore. makes my job easier and we all know that music pimpin aint easy

hmm ... i'd still be more tempted by the smallest MG ... a really good option for your two-input card would be the DMP3, but that's a little more expensive - but you'd get a really good pre ....?

Yamaha MG mixer. I think the MG10/2 is the smallest, it costs £75 here but is a very good mixer/set of preamps for the money.

The M-Audio DMP3 is a very good standalone 2-channel preamp - none of the bells and whistles of a mixer but by all accounts a lot of very clean gain. Dunno exactly how much it sells for, Gidge will know the best prices tho!!

The DMP3 can be had for about $150. It is much better than the Behringer. If you can afford the DMP3 I recommend it. Haven't heard the Yammie but pretty much everything they make is good quality.

If I could have a DMP3 for that price I would jump. It's £175 here now, which is about $350 at the current exchange. It's only £25 less than a Tampa (which I know is only one channel ... but for a home recording 'gold' channel ... ?).

Ill go with the dmp3 instead of a behringer since the only recording i will do is two Sp B1 mics at once so I might as well get the quality of the dmp3 right? Thanks guys
