Got A Major Delema! HELP!!! Pro Tools/Mic Question

Hey guys...I'm a drummer...and currently...ive been recording with my Powerbook, Mbox, and Pro Tools 6.9.2. I run a Beta 52 for my kick drum mic, and some cheapy condenser I bought for like $130.00. Well I've been getting decent recordings with just those two mics but I need more...and I dont know if I can get more out of the set up I have. I know I need to get a snare mic....probably an SM57. And then I'd wanna do two overheads instead of one. But obviously I would need to replace my interface...what should I get that'll work with Pro Tools 6.9.2? Also, can I record more then two tracks in Pro Tools at a time??? I'm sure I can...but a week or so ago I almost bought a mixer from Guitar Center and then guy told me I'd be wasting my money cause you can't record more then two tracks at a time. Hope I can get some answers...thanks!

Well, if you want to use ProTools software you are stuck with ONLY being able to use ProTools hardware.

The Digidesign 002 Rack has four condenser mic inputs as well as your regular 1/4" sm57 type inputs... I'm not sure about how many tracks you can record on at once, being that I've never had to, but you can record over all of 8 mics at once

Ehhh.......

The Digi 002 has four mic preamps with XLR inputs for either condensor or "sm57 type" mics. Those four channels also have line-level inputs for devices that put out line-level signal, or for using external mic preamps. It also has another four line-level inputs. Then it has ten channels of digital I/O, eight on ADAT lightpipe and two on SPDIF. Grand total of 18 inputs.

I'm sure I can...but a week or so ago I almost bought a mixer from Guitar Center and then guy told me I'd be wasting my money cause you can't record more then two tracks at a time. Hope I can get some answers...thanks!

Well, the GC guy may or may not be an idiot. If you buy a mixer, you can submix the drums to stereo and send to your two track interface. However you are then limited in your ability to process each drum mic.

Thanks, I should have been more specific or opened up the manual.I didn't know if the op had external pre's or not.

No it was more that your first post was completely incorrect and it seems like you have no clue what you're talking about, not that you needed to be more specific.
