Im looking for a decent Piano plug or sample. I hear the latest demo of Steinbergs 'The Grand' and was pretty impressed.

Any of you guys know any different? Dont wanna fork out £150 if its lame, and I can get a better sample for Giga....

Peace.

Yes, there is a decent sounding little VSTi called the MDA Piano. You can download it at Plugin Spot . They also have an electric piano too. They sound quite acceptable although it is not a sampled piano obviously.

euch...I got that one, that sounds terrible. The piano sound on my JV-1000 is much better than that...its too dry and synthesizzed..

You can get a not bad sampled piano (free) called splendid piano which is pretty good, but not a patch on 'The Grand'...

Hmm, Ill keep looking...

Well the Grand is the best available. So time to fork out that £150 mate.

I was considering The Grand also. Does anyone think it is better than alternatives such as the Gigasampler piano? How about the comment in the Keyboard review that some notes are out of tune? Is that really a concern, or is it really not so audible?

I'd like to get a really nice piano. Up until now, the best I've had is my Kurzweil PC88mx, which is very decent but is not the best for solo piano stuff. I've also always wanted to get a nice piano for my K2000 so I'd have something more portable and that I could use without having to firing up the computer. But I've never gotten around to shopping for one.

I just took advantage of the Summer Special at Sonic Reality. Sonic Synth comes with SampleTank LE and hundreds of sounds (VSTis). There are some pretty decent pianos that we are now using from that set. Not to mention you get OmniSynth which is their GM sound set. Not all that great overall, but some useful sounds. To top it off - you get a free expansion module. I chose the Symphonic Strings and have found several useful string sounds - but you could opt for the Piano module (which I plan to get next).

Go to http://www.sonicreality.com/summerspecial.html

Forgot to mention - it's $249 for all that!

Sonic Synth rules. You won't need anymore pianos after this.

Fred: the Piano Collection has a Rhodes patch (Sweet Rhodez) that is singlehandedly a major reason to get it. Best Rhodes I have even heard. The eROM also has about 40 more pianos to really get ya going!.

CuzinB,

I'll be re-auditining all the keyboard sounds soon. When you refer to the eROM, do you mean the add-on Piano Collection module for $59? I was considering that over the Wizoo Grand as our next step.

Fred,

Yep - I ordered Sonic Synth with the Piano Collection eROM and it is wicked. Tons of great patchs. For me , the best thing about Sonic Synth is it's playability - just load up a patch in SampleTank and go - no tweaking or worrying if the patch sounds right.

A real excellent value.

You're absolutely right about the ease of use of Sonic Synth / Sample Tank. Plus all the built in effects that are easily tweaked.
