good condenser mic

Hi all,
I really want to record some good guitar sound in heavy metal style, I tried SM57 and a AKG condenser borrow from my friend(I forgot the model), I like the AKG's sound much more, it have more ambience feeling and suitable to my music style, is there any other good choices of condenser mic to record heavy distorted guitar sound (under $250),and I am using mackie mixer, do I need a tube mic preamp for more warmth sound(like Behringer Ultragain Pro)?

the combo of the sm57 right up on the speaker and the AKG a few feet out will give you the best sound...you have to get the mic position right and the sound coming out of the amp right.....
