Marking my territory
Hi Folks,
I recorded a cover song but I had to make a guess at some of the chord changes as my singer wasn't around and I didn't have the correct music. I mixed it all down to tracks 7/8 and then took backups on to a PC. I then copied track 7/8 to 5/6 so I have all the music on 5/6 leaving 1/2/3/4 for the singer. At our next practice we realised I had one chord in the wrong place and it was really grating and detracted from the whole song but the singer had sung the song correctly. So I wondered how I was going to unpack the song and rerecord the music keeping the singing and keep everything in time.
So I immediately had a beer and a think. I saved the singers tracks to the PC and then downloaded the backups that I had made :-
Track 1/2 Stereo strummed guitar
3/4 Stereo finger picked guitar
5/6 Stereo bass
I put an intro count on track 7/8 just so I wouldn't lose my place. I rerecorded the guitar correctly on tracks 3/4 and then copied them to 1/2. I then redid the finger picking and the bass and mixed this all down to track 7/8 and then took another backup of the lot.
I then had another beer- this is thirsty work. I then copied track 7/8 to 5/6 and deleted every other track. I then imported the singer's tracks on to tracks 1 and 2 and blow me down it worked. We were in tune and in time.
Don't you just love digital!
Cheers
