Hi,
Quick question regarding phantom power on preamps. If a mixer has global phantom power does that mean that the phantom power is either on all channels and when it's off not on any? That is how I've understood it.

The problem being using say two condensor mics and two shure sm-57's for example to mic a drum kit, two need the phantom power and two don't rendering the mixer's phantom power useless one way or the other.

Or have I simnply got it wrong,
Thanks,
Krystof.

You're correct that in a global set up, when it's on, it's on all channels and when it's off, it's off on all as well. This shouldn't be a problem for you using condensors mics mixed with dynamics as long as there's no wiring issues with your cables and dynamic mics. Dynamic mics won't "see" the power on the cable if they're in good working order. About the only thing you have to be warry of are older ribbon mics as they did NOT like phantom power.

Cheers mate; it seemed like there would be some obvious explanation as many mixers state global phantom power and many people record with condensors and dynamics together.
