i haven't got a manager... i was signed to a label but then dropped the deal because first, our group wasn't getting along, second, the label was too one sided. I rap and am wondering how can i get shows booked so I can get my name out there. I live in detroit and there's so much competition in the rap game out here...

To get gigs you either gotta make friends, or hire a booking agent.

In the scene my band's in, unless you've got friends you gotta start from the bottom like anybody else. Since you're on a home recording website, a good step for you would be to up your studio IQ and get some local talent to record their demos with you. Do it for cheap, or even for free. Then they owe you a favor, and if it sounds good, they're gonna wanna help you out like you helped them out. I know if my band ever wanted to play a show with one of the bands I've recorded, it wouldn't take 2 seconds for them to say yes! It's all about getting to know people, making friends with the right ones, and politely avoiding the ones who aren't gonna help you. Don't attach yourself to some no-talent hack just 'cause he's/she's nice ;)

BTW, I'm not familiar with the rap scene, or with the detroit scene, so I'm not sure how helpful my advice might be. That said, I've probably played 200+ shows in the last couple years, so I have at least some experience! :p

the help out factor is good, but I have found that you really need a good understanding between folks when yo udo it, cuz most people take kindness for weakness and you end up with at least, some hard feelinz

in Central VA - i have seen all kinds of stuff pop off - but really you either have to know some one or start from scratch - open mics - hit em up frequently - only problem is, most open mic spots are only frequented by other artists . . . [this is where the hook up factor can work]

always check out the flyers, etc. at the music stores n go to as many other artist events you can . . .
