No good fer nothin!
getting *GOT* a new toy tommorow!

Ooooo getting something new tommorow.....

My a-2340 is coming along pretty nicely and I'm really digging the sound, but theres a few things about the way that it operates that I think will never really allow me to use it as an everyday piece of equipment (the simulsync systems kind of a pain, no remote possibilities, lack of tracks) although I still intend to finish it, my new toy should complement my overall setup pretty nicely.

The seller happened to be playing golf down by my house tommorow and is very kindly going to drop it off tommorow afternoon (which is good since his house is about 110miles away), and from the sound of things and pics I could see it's in good condition.

It looks like this(unfortunately this is the only pic he sent that I have on this comp):

ob too so I'll be able to take advantage of those nice xlr outputs on the back of my m-520:)

by the way sweetbeats.. if you havent sold that remote allready is it 12 pin/compatible with the 48?

that would be the one... also forgot to mention im getting the tascam tilt roller stand with it!

The RC-51 is made specifically for the 58 and will not work with any other machine. It uses a 56-pin ELCO connector to interface the machine and no other machine has the internal wiring to utilize that remote. Bummer too...it'd be a cool remote for the 48.

The 48 uses a basic transport function-only remote the RC-71.

Verrry cool that you got the stand too.

How much?

Any other goodies coming with it?

Excited for you. You'll like the 48.

Ah figured that would probably be the case... oh well the hunt's on for an rc-71 then:)

In terms of price... Since the money and machine haven't physically changed hands yet I don't want to jinx anything by getting too into detail on things that haven't happened, but the agreed upon amount is just under a third of what you spent on your big ampex come up:D

Not too many other goodies... nab hubs, a couple of empty metal reels, and a couple boxes of some slightly used quantegy 456, all in all though I think it's going to be a pretty good take.

Pinch roller definitely will need replace as he says it's sticky, but asides from that all is supposedly good, I know it had a complete service/restoration 4 years ago and has been in storage for 3 years now and he's going to give me all the paperwork on that. I'm pretty excited.

heh, definitely keeping my fingers crossed.. and hoping some strange lightning bolt of sanity doesnt strike my new friend:)

I think I've seen a few of the RC-71's on junkbay. If I remember right they went for 30 to 50$ I sure hope this guy isn't full of,,,, well you know! The best of luck.

Hey, congrats! I bought Sweetbeats' 48-OB earlier this year and I absolutely love it. It is such a wonderful machine. It was probably the best purchase that I've made, with my M-520 mixer being a close second.

All of you 8 trackers in here, and I'm looking to score a "lowly" 34 tomorrow. Would look nice next to the TSR-8!:D

Congrats man, hope all goes well for ya.;)

That doesn't sound too bad, I allready took a look and theres nothing up there now. I'll just have to bide my time and keep an eye out. Thanks for the pricing info I was curious about that!

Sounds like we're about to have the same core studios! I hope your not running krk's and a couple of old ashly and a.r.t. compressors, coupled with some cheap lexicons for fx or else the next time someone compliments my set-up I'm going to have to say lo.fi.love did it first;) Somehow I actually missed that 48-ob story until a couple of minutes ago, congrats on that unit! I imagine I'm going to have to put a little more work into mine then you probably did:)

Thanks, good luck with that 34(though I would hardly call it "lowly"). I was looking for a deck for what seemed like forever and finally picked up an a-2340 which is quite nice and I expect I'll continue to use it for some applications. However since then I've had the opportunity to pick up quite a couple decent machines. It's funny how I was looking for the first deck for so long and now I'm filling up my house with them at an alarming rate:) Tomorrow I should have the 48 and I have a lead on an ampex machine which I'm taking my time on making a move for because it's not actively being sold, and there's no one else competing for it. I also have a two track akai.

Is there an analog anonymous I can join??? If so we should all work out some sort of carpool:) At least my digital addiction wasn't consuming my money and my space.

I think you just nailed it for us in that statement. I think addict is the proper term.:D By weeks end I'll be up to 8 reel decks.

oh man he said he was going to get a hold of me between 1 and 4.... im starting to get nervous, he better not flake on me

I have a strange feeling!!! I hope for your sake I'm wrong. I was thinking about trying http://www.angelfire.com/electronic2/vintagetx/ Rolf did have a remote several months back but don't remember the price. I'll keep a look out for you. Please keep us updated weather he shows up or not. Good luck!

Whew... he showed up, but forgot the empty reels and tape which is annoying, but he says he'll mail them, so I'm okay with that.

Oh, he also says he'll mail the owners manual, service manual, and remote!:D

give me a few minutes here to do some resizing, I dont want you guys to have to download 1.5 mb pics, and I'll show you what 95 bucks gets ya!

all right, here we go!

just rolled it in... much nicer then all the carrying i've been doing lately!

a little closer

some head shots, look pretty good to me, some tape gunk on 'em but the wear seems moderate and even.

Moment of truth... time to plug it in. All lights come on, transport functions seem to all work, counter counts, every light in the deck works after much button pushing

00006.jpg

Shoot. Shouldn't have tested the transport functions.... my capstan and pinch roller look a little different then they did before? That's going to be fun to clean... you guys think I can still run it with that pinch roller or should I replace it?;)

I'll test how well it passes audio later, I'm pretty satisfied at the moment though!

You done good! :D

That was a great deal for $95 especially with the CS-607, remote and some tape. Looks like it is in decent shape, a little oxidation on the guides which tells me it has been in a humid environment but its not bad and the heads and lifters show relatively light even wear.

Yeah, I think it would be best to replace the pinch roller.

Keep us posted! That was a STEAL!!
