Hey guys,

it's been a while but I used the day off today to enter the contest, too. My mix isn't mastered, no processing on 2buss. I tried to listen to some mixes and after some time I got really confused and didn't know what sounded good or bad anymore ;) I went for a natural slightly processed sound with minimal effects. It should sound balanced and dynamic.

Liza Colby GearfestPuremix Contest

This was not an easy mix for me, despite there being only five or six tracks. Everything counts in a mix like this and nothing can be covered up such as pitch, timing, clipping, and so on. I don’t have the equipment I used to have in terms of plugins or monitors so that added to the difficulty of getting this mixed properly. Fab told us to not be a producer, so it was challenging to not get much direction about how to mix this project – we all had to second-guess what he was thinking about for this track. Then again, one of the beautiful things about music is that everyone interprets things differently.

The band was great and Liza sounds like she might have a little influence from Millie Jackson (oh BABY!), with her sensuous swagger and overall great delivery. Anyhow this was great fun and a humbling exercise.

I wanted to keep a live feel to it and I wanted it to rock! I hope I’ve come close. Best wishes to everyone that worked on this and thanks to Fab, and Liza and the boys for putting this together!

Looked in this thread & rules...When is actual deadline for submission?

I'm gonna guess 11:59pm on June 1st? Is that right? Eastern time, Pacific time?

I have a feeling this contest will be won on the basis of 7 guitar notes and 1 bass note. A lot of submissions!

Why do people uploads mp3's on soundcloud when you can upload a wave file?
 
Holy crap I just hit 2000 listens on my mix. Wow. (not that that means it's a good mix of course.)
 
Came across this contest this evening on another forum and I'm glad I did (don't worry, I frequent these pages as well :)). Thanks for this opportunity! Great experience and good fun.

I was wrong. A few weeks ago I foresaw approx. 1.000 tracks competing in this contest. Today we've passed 2000! Extraordinary!

Sadly, for now, they do not know the 'real' difference' in the file types ...and likely cannot hear it either... we are all - always growing. For me, at best, mp3's are like looking out a screen window. You can see your neighbor, but it's tough to tell if she put her makeup on today?

Everyone should do themselves a favor and upload .wav files.
