Gear Box crashes Cubase

I recently got a Line 6 Guitar Port with the software disc, and whenever I try and open Cubase up it freezes and won't open at all. I have to unplug the USB connector from the Guitar Port to open it, but when I plug it back in and open Gear Box I just hear the guitar and nothing from the Cubase project file I opened.

If someone could point out what I am doing wrong, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

For starters I'd go to Line 6's and Steinberg's site to see if there's any upgrades available for the versions you are running.

Have you downloaded the most recent software and drivers?

Is everything either 32bit or 64bit?

If you upgrade Cubase and you are on a Mac, before you upgrade:

Go into your hard drive, under Users, your name, Libray, Preferences and make a copy of your Cubase Preferences and store that somewhere.

Then after you load the new version of Cubase you can put your Preferences back without having to redo them from scratch.

Why Steinberg doesn't tell users to do that borders on sadism.

I had that same issue. For some reason the toneport is a bus power hog.

If it's the only thing plugged into your machine that requires power then, I dunno.

If you have other bus powered things, try a powered usb hub (one with an adapter to take the power load off your computer).

At one point I couldn't even open gearbox without a crash, that's what it turned out being.
