GC blowing out Oktava

Hey, I found a website blowing them out at 3 piles for .99. Are you willing to price match?!?!?!
 
I sell poop at a loss, but I make up for it in volume.
 
So I went to my local GC (Clackamas Oregon) last night, and they actually had three of the MKl-2500's in stock, as the guy on the phone told me earlier. They were disorganized as usual, but 30 minutes after I got there, they finally pulled out all three for me to look at and test. I chose one of the three, gave them my ASCAP card (to get a discount), and walked out with one for $89.99. One more color to add to my mic collection for very little $$. Yep - I'm a happy camper. :cool:

Balanced or unbalanced?

I guess unbalanced poo would have the poo slightly off to one side...

Would it be on a poo poo platter?
 
Well, I found a GC in another area and got their last MKL2500. Gonna see how it stacks up. First thing that bothers me is the 6 foot cable. Don't think I like that idea much!!
 
My new MKL-2500 works just fine. For the fun of it, I opened up the power supply to see how well it was assembled, and I was pleasantly surprised by the apparent improvement in quality over the first Oktava mics I took apart two years ago. Good solder joints, 105C rated electrolytic caps (not the previous 85C rated caps), shrink-tubing on the solder joints that attach wires to connectors and switches...

*sighs with relief... not so worried about burning the studio down*

I'm actually impressed with how it sounds too. Much smoother, and a better top end than the MK-319's I bought and returned two years ago.
 
where I have to drive today, I pass a GC, you guys are making it hard to resist, but I haven't seen the gas prices yet today, so it might actually be impossible, a tank of gas vs. a new cheap tube mic.
 
I picked up a MK319 from BanjoMart this afternoon.

Are there any external markings that would indicate whether it was built in China or Mother Russia?
 
How is the QC on these? I've heard about some lemons.
A pair of 319's certainly sounds good right now...

QC on Oktava's is pretty hit or miss... you'd be better off to try out the mics at the store before you walk out with them. GC salespeople are used to doing this, so don't be afraid to tell them you want to try them out first. The XLR connectors on some 319's is undersized and won't accept a mic cable, so at least try to plug in a cable, let alone taking the time to listen to them.

yea, but those are the one's left over in the pile that everyone picked out the good one's from so if ya got a good one, don't complain

I still might go over there one of these days tho. :)

Probably still some decent mics, if any of the stores have any left...

Those prices make it a no-brainer... :)
 
I picked up a 319 also. The "list" said they had only one in stock. The sales guy wired it into a Mackie board and gave me a set of headphones to test it out. Not expecting much I was pleasantly surprised that it had a pleasing bottom end while remaining detailed and flattering up high (kind of sounds like a good date, eh?)
While plunking down my 55 bucks I noticed another guy asking about them. The sales guy pulled another one out from behind the counter. So much for the secret list!?!?!
Later on at home we did some a/b-ing on my voice and my wife's voice and found that the 319 will make a great addition to our mic drawer. It's definitely colored, and in a good way. It fills in a gap that wasn't filled before. It's fun to bring home a new mic - especially for the price ;~)
Hope someone else found a good one!
