They work, but I'm not sure they're necessary. I used my 012's for almost a year before I bought the shock mounts, and haven't really noticed any difference in sound quality using them.

I use the shockmounts I have, but I don't think in my case they are doing much. I have a heavily-padded concrete floor in a dedicated vocal booth, no strange vibration sources anywhere, and I'm not recording more than one audio source at a time.

One place where shockmounts really matter is in places with unusual resonances coming through the floors from machinery, HVAC and other rumbly stuff elsewhere in a large building which you have no control over and usually aren't normally aware of.

In any case, I don't think any shockmount I've ever personally seen was any great engineering product, just improvised suspension through damped elastic.

While I doubt my shockmounts do much in this tightly-controlled home studio environment, they really earned their keep in the chaos of the broadcast booth when I was doing radio.

I just ran down to Guitar Center and cried about missing the green tag sale due to being out of town on business. They sold me the 319's at $50 each (gimme two, please) and said they would honor any other items that I wanted.

How come they show the 319 with a MSRP of $499? Was it ever that high?

Yeah, I picked a couple up over the summer @ $50 per. I still have the tags on the pouch that says "List: $599.99" lol

Not really.

Any time Guitar Center has an exclusive item, they can put whatever insane MSRP on it they want to. GC is the exclusive US distributor for McKay Oktavas, so they decided to give them a very inflated MSRP. I've seen them do this with a lot of equipment, and the MSRPs are usually at least twice what they should be.

"80% OFF!!!" sounds so exciting, right?
