I bought a Behri C1 large diaphram Condenser mic on ebay recently - it was ULTRA cheap so I couldn't resist.
When it arrived I experimented with it using an older blue tube preamp. The results were noisy, generally disappointing & I figured I had what I paid for.
Today I decided to have another crack at it & used an ultra cheap behri preamp I've had for years.
The results were really quite good.
I assume that it's not a case of 2 cheapies adding up to a goodie but that there's is a degree of compatibility between a behri mic & pre.
Is this correct?
Has anyone had a similar experience?

First guess would be a substandard/old tube in your Bluetube... the tube is there to introduce distortion. It's probably just doing too much of a good job. Try dropping in another 12AX7 and seeing how it sounds.

I've been watching a few of those cheapie C1's on eBay myself. A local shop had one complete for $200, but I think I'll hold off and get a cheaper used on e at some point.

The Bluetube works fine with my MSH 1 and 57.
The Behri C1 was only AUS$50 delivered - it came with case & clip which is good as it doesn't fit my isolation cradle.
Thanks for the response.

I had a couple of C1s around for a while and they weren't horrible. I'd guess the old BlueTube maybe is short a little phantom power, the C1 might not like low voltage.

Ah, MS, that seems to be a something more likely. Ta.
When I experimented last night I used my MSH through the blue as a reference, setting them both up to record the same performance though with a neight diff of about 30cm.
