Funky Drum solo

Hard to tell with it being a drum solo. Lot of stuff going on at once. The kick sounds like it lacks some beef - too much attack - and the whole thing sounds like its leaning to the right on my headphones. The toms sound pretty good. The snare may need more 'crack' to it. Nice playing though. :)

Cheers man.
Yeah the kick is a bit too punchy. I suppose I could sort that with a faster attach time on the compression.
The toms are samples that I recorded myself just so we didnt get any unwanted bleed from the cymbals really.

I cant hear the leaning to the right.
The RMS average values are Left: -24.68dB
Right: -24.75
So pretty close.

Is that it? Too short man. What I heard sounded good, but not enough to really form an opinion. My impression is the snare needs more and the toms sound good. The truth will be when you mix 'em with everything else

That is everything else. :)
Its a drum solo. Although the drums are played along with the rest of the band, and then the drum solo is the last part of the song.

Ive been thinking of using different EQ for the drums in the solo compared to the drums in the mix, as I think I could add more low end to some of the stuff, and take away some high end when the drums are on their own.

Anyone done this before and/or Have any ideas on doing this?

Cheers,
Eck

i personally liked that reeeealll punchy kick, but thats just me. other than that it sounds pretty damn good. maybe bring the snare up just a hair?

Sounds pretty good. I agree about bringing up the snare a bit.

Thanks both.
Ive not been mixing for a while so I am hearing everything in a new light since my ears are fresh. Gonna get back to the mixing!

Sounds real good in the mix to me. Sort of a thin kick, but there's no denying it's there and fits the mix good. I personaly would dial a bit more 60-90hz in on the kick keeping the Q pretty narow. It does work for me as it is. I just like to feel the kick.

Good job!

Yeah getting a good solid low end is tricky I find. I boost around that region and it can take the high punch away suppose its a compromise.

Cheers n Happy New Year!
