Toastlicking cobbnobblers...

LOL Toastlicking cobbnobblers - man, I hope you're making this stuff up. LOL

Man S8-N, I've tried to download your last two (I think) posts and each time freedrive would drop out after about 1MB.

As of 22:32 Freedrive is up but so bogged down that I timed out just trying to log on. What kind of boobs run that place?

When Freedrive starts that lolligagging
routine, just head on over to JustOn. They both play the same "for free" quality of service games but mostly at different times.
I was just on at Freedrive (10:30PM PST)
and they were running better than usual, but your folder lacked any new additions. :(

I tried to upload to Juston twice and timed out both times. Im done with it...
I just uploaded a file to a virtual drive called "X-Drive". It took around 40 minutes to upload one MP3... about average for me... The file sharing system looks kinda screwy so you'll have to log on as me and be on your best behavior... I'm not uploading this song again. I can't forsee any serious security issues rising from giving out my password so here goes...

Go to : www.xdrive.com
Log on as : satan69
Password : cthulu
The file : Rick Mix 12-8

We'll see how well this works...

Yeah, that's about what it took me too.
They're much faster than Freedrive. Maybe they don't have as many users yet.
S8-N, I have a feeling that drstawl isn't using a dial-up Internet connection- and either am I, so your "results may vary".

Took me 3min with DSL. Pretty quick site for that size file. Couldn't listen to it yet time for supper.

F*CKING SHIT!

Twice I got to xdrive download page for Rick James, twice IE locked up on me. What the hell?

S8-N: something tells me that your ISP is pretty worthless. I've got a 56K modem and have compared the performance to my cable connect. Yes the cable is much faster, but not 200x faster. Typically 60x faster. At 40 minutes, that's less than 2K/sec. A decent 56K connect should do >5K/sec. Have you tried NetZero? They work at full modem speed with both Freedrive and JustOn.

Out of all of the ISP's I have tried... Bellsouth.net is the fastest in THIS area... I tried MSN, Mindprirg, IBM, Gateway, and Compusuck (By far the worst!). All of the above would give me busy signals during peak hours and if I did manage to log on, it was so slow that I was wasting my time.
I generally download at around 5kbs... is this slow? Uploading takes longer, why? idonno.
Ya know... there have been 12 replies to this post and nobody has even mentioned the song...THE SONG... RICK JAMES!!!!!! THE SSSOOONNNGGG!!!!!!

S8-N

I'd mention it chief, but for some reason I can't get to it.

BTW: I downloaded Some Assembly Required some time ago, don't know that I ever mentioned it but issa good tune.

Really liked the fx at the beginning and the live drums.

Well the Topic of the post was Freedrive
and some induced insanity. As to the song, it didn't grab me the way some of your other stuff has, so I thought I'd listen to it several times in several states of mind before I flapped my lip. I didn't like Tarkus (ELP) when I first heard it. How did that happen? The Rick James deal was amusing in any case..... I can see how that snippet of bass line got you involved in this project.
BTW:
5KB/sec is OK for a 56K modem, but you can get this service for FREE with NetZero.

BTW, Mp3.com wont post the song due to the samples I used so there...
What the hell are you talking about "snippet of a bass line"??? Are we talking about the same song???

S8-N

Nope, didn't like it. Doesn't have that, I don't know, energy, feel, anger. Just felt like something was missing. So far I like Some Assy Required best. The mix was decent, but I'm a words guy and couldn't understand half the time, other than that I'm not qualified to say, not having mixed anything for 8 years.

Sorry if you thought "snippet" implied less importance. I was referring to the length of that monster signature Rick James riff. It seemed like everything else was built around it.

Oh.
I feel like that song has to be heard live to be appreciated. There's some polyrythmic stuff going on with the bass that kinda got drowned out. I couldn't seem to get proper seperation between instruments and still retain the tone of each, so I just sorta threw everything in there.
That bass line drove our late bassist to curse the day he ever met me. A year and a half later he still couldn't play it right.
I guess I should post the pro-studio version.
