fostex vf160 playback?

For some reason I can't get any sound when I try to overdub?! I record 50 seconds on track 1, then tried to record another track on 2 and 15 and neither will let me hear track one. Is there a button I'm not pushing? Is this super straightforward? This is literally the first time I've used it and the manual online is giving me naught.


Any help would be much appreciated!
 
Have you ever heard output from the RCA outputs or the headphone output?

Yes, from the headphone output, but only recording the first track. Couldn't hear anything while trying to overdub.
 
Did you:
(1) Disarm your recorded track (button to green)
(2) Adjust your fader (slider)---it controls your playback volume.
