Thanks Nasty, that's what I think I'm after, and Yes Rokket, I'm in an apartment. The neighbours wouldn't appreciate me turning my amp up (Marshall AVT150 with 2 200 watt speakers). I have tried it sort of, but a half hearted attempt due to how loud I had it and didn't fancy an argument.
I plug straight into the Fostex through my pedal board...this is my only option unless I start WW3, lol.
I hear ya. There are ways around it, but it's a major pain in the ass. Tracking when they are not home, etc. Runs into too many problems. I was doing it that way for awhile, with good results if I was careful about the signal chain. I just prefer to mic the cab if I can.

Hello Everyone

So I've searched but I can't find the answer and I saw the question come up again in the post. So do I have to create a wave for each track then burn each track to a cd to get each track on to my pc. Also how would you use the cable mentioned in the previous post to record to the pc. Can you transfer 16 tracks over the a usb cable and have the tracks come out seperated on the other end or would you need special programs and if so which.

Thanks

You can't use USB to transfer tracks.
Easiest way to do it IMHO is to save the program (song) to a CD as WAV files, then transfer the CD to the computer and import the WAVs.
(You need a CD burner connected to the VF).

You could use ADAT or SPDIF, but it's complicated.

Thanks for the reply

But is there a way to burn a file that will have the indivudual tracks of each instrument on the CD. I have made music cd and put them on the computer but i cant tweak each individual instrument. For expamle if I want to more snare of kick i cant do that with the CD i burn. I have to go back to the fostex and burn another cd. Basically what I want to do is lay the tracks on the fostex and move the tracks to my pc to do the rest on my pc. In order to do this will I have to record each individual track to a cd in wave format or is there another way utilizing a cd. I know about the adat but I am wondering if this can be done with a cd and which would be more cost effective.

Thanks

Check the manual. I am pretty sure this procedure is covered.

Emmdom: This machine does exactly what you want:
Try this:
Press 'Setup'
Select SAVE PRG (save program)
Press Enter/Yes
Select IDE
Press enter/yes

There are some other options, select all tracks, clipboard off - I think that's about it.

At the end it will burn each multitrack track as a WAV file. It will do them all together (as long as the song fits on one disk).

Hello Guys

There is the key word, "At the end it will burn each multitrack track as a WAV file.". I have done a burnt a song on to a cd, but what I was wondering if I could burn each individual track from the mutitrack.

In other words I used channel 1-8 to record a song right. I then wanted to save channels 1-8 on a disc as seperate files or fomated in a way so when i go to my pc the channels will still be sepereated for one track. So I am assuming that this can't be done.

Thanks

Emmanuel

you said:"I then wanted to save channels 1-8 on a disc as seperate files"

You *can* save tracks 1-8 as separate files, where track 1 ends up as a WAV file, track 2 on another file, and so on... with all the files on 1 CD.

Is this what you want to do?

(If you do - read my last post)

Hello

Okay know I think I am a little confused. I know how to save the multitrack song track that you get when you do an internal mixdown I can do that. But what I want to do is for example channel 1 is guitar, channel 2 is bass, and so on right. Okay know when i do the internal mixdown channels .....

Wait a light just appeared. What I should do is and Internal mixdown of each channel right. Then save them as individual wav files on the cd right. Cool I think I got it.

Thanks guys.

Wrong, wrong wrong.
From your original song you can save each track
Do not use Internal Mixdown (takes too long).
You have missed the SIMPLE answer.

Hello

I went back to your prev post and the instruction manual now i think I see what you were talking about sorry for streching it out so long thanks. I am going to play around with the machine tonight.

Thanks

I've got a connection between my VF16 and my sound card (Sound Blaster PCI), by way of the RCA's off the VF to the mic input on the card. I've got signal to the PC 'cause I can hear my stuff through the speakers. My question is; Can i capture this signal with the Cool Edit Pro2 directly, or do I have to load it to another program, then transfer to CEP2?

I think you should be able to record directly into CEP using the mic input.
Is there a line-in on the soundcard? If there is, it might be better than the mic-in (better matched electrically to the fozzy's line-out).
But you'd be best off to use a digital input on your computer fed by the VF's digital out - that way you keep the signal digital so you're not degrading it by converting it to analogue and back again.

Tanx Orc. No line in, just the mic. Can't go with the digi patch just yet, 'cause I've blown my bucks on stuff I don't need, or can't use right now.I'll give it another try.

Correction: The Wife just showed me a line in. This is new to me (obviously), and sometimes I get a little ahead of myself. Hence, the newly purchased, un-usable cables and equipment.

Congrats on your choice of life-partner if not on your choice of cables!

Happy Tracks
