Anyone know where I can order fostex mr8 buttons? My recording button is broken.. I tried taking it apart and gluing it back but the glue was not strong enough. I contacted several authorized service centers... but they charge out the roof. One wanted 125.00 plus shipping, plus 65 up front. Another wanted 65.00 an hr plus parts, plus shipping. If I had the buttons I could do the job.. just need those cheapo plastic buttons. Anyone know where to get em?

buttons

those damn buttone again....
it just goes in and hits a pad, some people use a pencil, there so expensive to fix, and you know they wont sell you the button, they might loose money.....

Reminds me of the time one of the key caps popped off from the keyboard of my old laptop. HP would not sell me a new cap. They wanted $600 to replace the whole keyboard.

I hear ya brother...my "loc A' button broke on my MR-8. I work around it by using a roland pedal for punch-ins". This may be what you have to do as well.

good luck

At this rate we'll have to start posting pictures of 'Frankenstein' MR-8's with the covers off and all kinds of user modifications. Once people begin replacing buttons with home-grown 'remote transport' boxes this could get pretty interesting!

Hey what pedal works? I mean what model? Thanks

bad buttons

its a shame this otherwise great little digital recorder has this mark against its reputation....as many complaints as I've seen just on this bbs, you would think Fostex would want to accomodate MR8 owners. Unhappy customers are really bad advertisement. Has anyone ever contacted a consumer advocate group and asked them to deal with Fostex about these faulty buttons? Just wondering.

$300

Well for 300.00US, I am not too surprised by all of this. I was warned about this the day I bought this unit. Still I love this thing:)

I have still not had any problems with my buttons, but I'm sure my day is coming. Maybe it would help if all of us bombarded Fostex with emails on this subject. That way they maybe will correct this problem in the future and even make some replacement buttons available. It can't hurt. We just need to all email the same person or email address. If anyone has it post it and I'll send them an email.
From the numerous posts about bad buttons on this board they have probably lost a lot of business.

buttons

In July I will have had mine for a year and have no button problems. But after all the threads, I treat them extra special. Boy, have times have changed. When the record button on my Fostex X-26 4 track cassette broke, I called them and they sent me one FREE!!! Of course that was 15 years ago. But I agree with kd, we should barrage Fostex with complaints. When I first started visiting this site a Fostex rep was leaving replys to posts. If I remember correctly, he left one in the -cf upgrade user experience- thread. Let the search begin. Having to buy a larger cf, a usb cable, and software I can deal with. But $100.00 to replace a plastic button is regoddamndiculous!! If they've sold a million of these units, they have enough resources to sell these buttons at a minimum plus shipping. I'd search the yellow pages and check my local electronic stores for something if it came down to it. But for now I guess emo will have to get some stronger glue.

One of my favorite movies is The Net because Dennis Miller dies. :) The rest of the movie sucks tho.

ya know I never really liked him much either but since he opened up his eyes he's not so bad. And his comment was as true as true can be!:)

I had to search for this thread because it has been a while since anyone posted on it, but I was wondering if any users had any updates about the buttons on their mr8s. My record and stop buttons are totally screwed. I'll tell you, I am kind of ticked. I never had this problem with Tascam.

Unfortunately, My locate A button is still not working. To work around it (which has been ok) I use a foot pedal to do manual punch-ins instead of automatic punch ins. You may want to try using the pedal to record but as far as stopping.....I think you are stuck.

I am already considering other options since I feel that it is a matter of time before all of my other buttons break.
