I think Im buying a SOUNDCRAFT SPIRIT M8(or a mackie 1402) to do some home recording.
-Should i get an external tupe preamp to use whith the mixer?
-If the answer is yes, then wich one?

P.S. I play guitar so I just love tubes =)

Well that depends. Are you not going to be satisfied with the sound from the preamps of the boards, or just need that tube sound. If you're not satisfied with the sound coming from the preamps of the board, you might consider buying another board. If it's the tubes you're after I recommend TLAudio (or HHB which is the same)

Any recommendations for a Tube Preamp would definitely be contingent on how much you are willing to spend.

I would avoid any piece of tube gear that uses a "wall wart" PS.

Tubes need serious voltage to sound good. Don't believe the hype. Good tube mic pres are not cheap. In fact, good tube anything is gonna cost ya.

BTW I love tubes too! But designing and manufacturing quality tube gear is not an inexpensive undertaking. If you can't afford the good stuff your better off to stay with silicone.

My $.02

Didn't you know that if you want your recordings to sound warm, vintage, etc., you MUST have tubes ? ! ! Forget the mixer, dude, and just get a great big tube, and see what you can mix with that.

If you want something different then the Meeks will give you more color for a few hundred bucks. If you want better you will be looking at about $600+ and even that is debateable.

If you want better check out the pres at www.mercenary.com
