Pretty cool!

I bought a VoiceMestar Pro a few month ago... I love it! I never worked with huge super mega preamps like Avalon etc, but I like the VMP a lot! I'm sure this TwinTrak thing is nice too!

The VM Pro IS a super mega pre-amp. There is a control for adding the "breath" that the unit takes away just hearing it!

Seriously, I have one and it is a great unit. Just don't over do it with the modules. Use them sparingly as the pre-amp is very good sounding on its own.

I saw this a few weeks ago and it looks very impressive. Basically it's the same preamps as the VMPro. They took out the vintage harmonics section and the de-esser and the full range EQ. They kept in the compressor and a midrange EQ scoop so it is aimed primarily at instruments that conflict with the vocal range. Perfect for drums, bass, guitar etc. It also comes with an additional preamp.

I don't know guys, this looks like an RNP attack to me. Same price range, 2 pres, a compressor and basic EQ. The VMPro pres already one-up the RNP to my ears.

Now the compressor is not as global as the RNC so I still think a total RNP/RNC solution is very viable but look at the cost.

RNC - $179
RNP - $495
Total: $674

The Twintrak will come in around $500 with a compressor and EQ to boot. I think the Focusrite route is a good alternative for a newbie.

The only thing that may be an issue is the vocal sound of the RNP vs the Twintrak. The VMPro is designed for vocals but by taking an instrument only approach on the Twintrak, which their manual states, they might lose out if the quality is not up to par with the RNP.

It's great to see under $1000 gear still being focused on however as the choices for the homerecorder are getting better.
