Focusrite Penta

I was just looking over this new one, and I'm trying to figure out if its gimmick to snatch up beginners and bottom feeders money, or if its really a good preamp to have. I liked the Focusrite red series I used alot, as well did everyone else. Wonder how this compares to the red series. Same preamp as the voicemaster, but no eq, but some weird preset compressors. I didn't know Focusrite was founded by Rupert Neve. Whats the word on that?

I can vouch for one thing... the preamp section is VERY VERY nice... its the rest of the included stuff that I don't know about.

What does nice mean? Nice big? Nice wide? Nice tonal? Nice airy? Nice warm/not warm? What pre would you compare it to?

Well, the word that I feel is "clean". Its a real clean preamp, not much coloration, but airy. Hard to explain, but it does sound good. Its the same preamp in the voicemaster or whatever its called and the new Focusrite/protools control center.
