FMR Stuff

I have an RNP (use it ALL THE TIME), I have a RNC (use it sometimes but not a ton).

Reason I don't use the RNC a lot is, I have plug-ins that give nice clean compression, so I rarely feel the need to use an outboard piece of gear. When I use it it is usually because I like turning knobs.

I've been looking at RNLA, and PCB-6a. I really like FMRs stuff and value. I want a compressor that adds some character (i.e. to use as an effect mostly). Will either of those do it? What do you guys think of them?

The RNLA can be driven hard and the effect is cool for the colorization that it provides.
 
Either will add character. The question for you is what kind do you want? The RNLA reminds me of an Allison Research GainBrain but is easier to dial in. The PCB-6A is designed to sound similar to the old RCA B6A limiters so prized by Jimmy Page.
 
Cool, thanks. I'll probably end up with both sometime, because I am cheap and don't want to spend $1000+++++ on a compressor (and because I'm not very good and a mega expensive toy won't help a lot). FMR is awesome because they are making the kind of stuff, in the price range, that a lot of us with basic home studios want. Now they just need to make some sort of pre-amp with character that runs for $400-$500, I'd get two sight unseen!

I'll probably go with the RNLA first (again because it's cheaper and I'm cheap). How do they compare to the RNC, not in terms of sound, but the RNC is used in pretty high end studios, would the RNLA and PCB-6A be in that same league?

Yes. A quality tool is a quality tool.
 
Ok, I guess that was what my real question was, are RNLA and PCB-6A quality gear worthy of my fine studio? The answer seems to be yes.

oh and my fine studio is anything but fine, but I LOVE it and every piece of gear I have gathered over the years.
