Miley Cyrus "Wrecking Ball" chorus question

Does anyone have a thought on what is generating the pseudo-bass-drum sound on the one-beat of each chorus? Obviously something very compressed, but I can't quite identify what was likely used for the original signal.

I know this is a bit esoteric, but I just finally redid my control room equipment and acoustics. I now have really clean and really flat response, with a large amount of headroom. The sound of this song is fascinating at volume. Note: Not my usual choice of music, mostly just using it as one exemplar test piece for the new room. The Three Tenors doing "Santa Lucia" is another piece I was using, as well as Motorhead's cover of "Heroes". My tastes are, admittedly, just a bit eclectic.

Thank you in advance to everyone.

Sounds like either a real kick drum or a sample one to me.
