First set of monitors! Opinions please!

So I've been sort of looking around at monitors online and went to a local GC to listen to a few of my choices.

Right now looking at the Rokit RP8, Yamaha, HS80m, M-Audio CX8, Mackie MR8mk1 and the M-Audio DSM2

Really leaning for the DSM2's, I have yet to actually HEAR them because they weren't at GC, neither were the CX8 or HS80m.

I can get the DSM2s for 500 total, shipped free.
Would this be the best choice? I know they normally retail for 750 a piece!

You need to audition the monitors you're interested in. Base your choice on what sounds best to you. Talk to an online seller and see if they would send you a few different monitors to audition.

Also, how is your room? Is it acoustically treated? You may want to invest in some treatment before monitors.

Never tried any of those, but the Yamahas would be my choice based on reputation alone.

When I lived in Nyc I purchased a pair of Rokit 5's back in 2007 and I'm still using them now.
They're so clear and strong they don't seem like they'll ever blow out. I did pay top dollar
for them at the time but I see them in Pawn Shops and on craigslist for 150 for both speakers.
So if your looking for your first pair of monitors check these out, plus they're self powered so you
don't need a amp.

I'm also in the market for my first pair of monitors. I'm unsure of what to get especially for a novice producer; my ears aren't as well trained as I would like for them to be so I don't know how important it is for me to have the most accurate monitors.

The Rokit 5s sound good to me, if anything more accurate bass than others, but again I'm unsure of what exactly to look for. I've also heard from engineer's and friends that they're a good value for how they're priced.

Anyone and everyone, please advise.

Without hearing any of them I'd start with a 6"-7", thats commonly the 3ft triangle size.
Most 5" miss the bass and want to add a sub later.
The 8" fit in the close monitoring range and offer more bass, which could be helpful.
I went through a flurry and grabbed some 6.5" and was happy ever since. Tried some subs and found I didnt need them on the 3 pc guitar band stuff I was doing. Personal use only.

100watts is a typical power amp in the "starter" HR series, and most the active speakers are around this level of power.
175watts?

clap your hands in the room...if you can hear it echo, get going on some room treatment reading.

its a fun time driving yourself nuts!
