Harvey, my dear old brother in arms

I am slightly younger than you, 65 now and I started recording quite late, in the mid eighties and I have learned so much from you that I consider you a dear friend.

I came to the forums in 2001, when musicplayer was a huge family where celebs like George M. Roger N. Ed C. and many worldfamous professionals could be found on an almost daily basis.

Bruce Swedien came to gearslutz and Harmony Central somewhat later, I guess round 2004. And I respect Bruce very much, he shared his enormous amount of knowledge with every noob who could ask a polite question.

But something the same happened what is happening to you and a number of times. A total lack of respect to someone who has a closet full of grammy awards, I quess it's a sign of the times, anyway, Bruce seems to be gone, thanks to a couple of assholes. Musicians like Bruce and yourself are are very emotional guys, or am I wrong?

And look what happended on the many recording forums: noobs are taking over and the celebs and extremely skilled professional engineers are leaving one by one. You are kind of a last mohikan on the recording forums.

I don't visit the forums every day like I used to, more once per week and it makes me very angry to read your frustration about a respecless pile of dogshit who has the nerve to insult someone like you, my friend.

Relax and don't let it spoil you day, I sincerely hope you will think very hard and realise you do have many friends on this forum and not a single enemy. It's just another asshole who is trying to insult you like so many piles of shit you stumble on every now and then.

I hope you will change your mind and stay, we need you here my man, really.

(oh and Daisy, you should be deeply ashamed, a daisy is such a nice flower. I am a moderator/admin on three forums and if I was a mod here I'd have banned you for life)

Well, as another old fart (64) I'll weigh in, FWIW (not much).

Keith Ricker, aka chessrock, aka Daisey, aka Moon Unit Sound, aka possibly recordingpro, and others, has been a troll here for many years. He does have some entertaining things to say with an enjoyable writing style. Han, he has been banned here as chessrock, but as you can see resurrects himself in other incarnations. He does have some recording knowledge, but apparently little success in converting it into a meaningful body of work. His website is http://www.geocities.com/moonunitsl/ if you care to peruse it.

He has been instrumental in driving several actual recording pros away from this site in the past, temporarily or permanently, including Harvey Gerst, Alan Hyatt and Stephen Paul (RIP). It's sort of like having a mosquito that keeps landing in the middle of your back - just irritating, and you can't quite get it, so it's easier just to go somewhere else.

Harvey, I really think you just need to let his shenanigans fall into the dirt with no further comments - he is not to be taken seriously. Put him on your ignore list if necessary, though it's easier just to read and laugh.

But stick around - most of us here deeply appreciate your help, and you are a big part of what makes this site worth coming to.

Noobs are ABSOLUTELY NOT the problem on homerecording.com - in fact, if they dare post outside Newbies or mention the Behringer word they get mauled badly. There are other BBSs that are far more noob-friendly than this place where more experienced people have absolutely no problem giving sensible answers to basic questions or politely pointing people to FAQs or previous posts.

It's the bullies and fatmouths that are the problem. I keep coming back here hoping that things have improved but a week or so usually cures me. Harvey and a few others are my reason for persevering because they have wisdom and a genuine desire to help others. They don't have big egos that can only be satisfied by mocking and beating up on people that just want to learn and become better recordists.

please reconsider

I understand that at 71 you are past this kind of childish insulting. I don't blame you.

Please consider that there are many of us who hope you'll stay here at H.R. I look for your posts everytime I log on. You don't have anything to prove . Your experience speaks for itself. I have learned a lot from your posts.

The real reason you post here is to help to those who really want to learn. The worst kind of tyranny is when the few who have nothing to offer but criticism and insults, can silence those who have much to offer.

If someone disagrees with something you post, they should be able to state their reason without being disrespectful and insulting. That makes the forum better and I'm sure you are open to the opinion of others.

I believe most of us here DO respect you, your work and your advice.

Second that. I hope this is just a case of being up late or not being in the best of moods. I'd hate to lose you around here. :(

Agreed, it's not noobs in general, but some noobs are really annoying. The newby's in recording who are eager to learn are very okay.

About that Daisy character: I am a moderator on the busiest musician forum in the netherlands (a very small country), 19000+ registered musicians and some threads have been visited more than a million times. This is almost extreme for a forum in the dutch language. There are 26 mods there who are very active. A guy like chessrock/Daisy or whatever his nick may be would have been banned permanently and of course would have registered with another nick. But his style will not alter, so one of the mods would recognise it and check his IP. The next move would be an IP ban and the problem solved, period.

Time for the moderators on homerecording to start their engines I suppose.

Harvey, please reconsider.

Daisy, take a hike. Or better yet, I vote for giving Daisy the boot.

Thanks for everything you've contributed here, Harvey. I do hope you reconsider.

Paul:D

Thanks Harvey

Just wanted to say that I understand your position Harvey. Thanks for sharing information with us ( for free) that can only be gained by your years of experience.

Don't leave, Harvey.

Don't let a gender-confused dude with compulsive asshole disorder bother you.

Sorry, but this has been going on with me almost from the day I started posting here. People accusing me of trying to start a cult following, thinking I'm some kinda god, and all kinds of crap. From Chessrock, DJL, Li Slim, and now Daisy.

That's Daisy Rock just accusing you of what he desperately wants-- cult worship, but instead of in a friendly, helpful way as some sort of bad-ass message board poster who 'types it like it is' in his own irreverent way.

These are the kinds of times when I wish that Dragon would swoop in. Credible, industry veterans who contribute valuable information to the people who visit the board out of an altruistic desire to help people who want to get into home recording shouldn't be driven away by weenies who need strangers to give them praise and approval for being d****bags. The sad thing is that if DR would just stop trying to be such a typing badass, he clearly knows enough to be a valuable resource.

If

Just for the record, "IF" (and I do mean "IF") Harvey said a $20.00 practice amp was good in the studio, I would check it out if I was looking for a recording amp. If I agreed with his opinion then that would be really cool that he had recommended something that sounded good but was inexpensive. If I didn't agree with his opinion then I would still respect it because he knows his stuff.

Harvey has been a champion for inexpensive but decent gear. That bothers some of the arrogant gear snobs here at HR.

Thanks Harvey for helping those of us who were able to appreciate that someone was willing to pass along their years of experience.

Naw, daisy/Chessrock ain't gonna let it go:

http://www.homerecording.com/bbs/showpost.php?p=2979913&postcount=1

And I'm really the dummy for not knowing that daisy was Chessrock, posting under another name.

Screw it, let daisy answer this shit.

Harvey,

You're not the only dummy who didn't twig to that possibility ;). Anyways, I long ago figured that Chess(I'm a legend in my own mind)rock was a total waste of..............nah, let's say I just chose to almost forget he existed:).

ChrisO

I have reported this situation to the mods and I ask you guys to do the same, just click on the report button in the upper right corner. Thanks on behalf of Harvey and me.

Harvey,
You're the only reason I look at this site. I'm just a weekend warrior, dumbass who knows less about recording than anyone here but even I know Daisy/Chess is full of shite. Ignore him like the rest of us do. Ive yet to see a useful post by him. I've valued your opinion greatly in my time here. Thanks for sharing.
