First Look - MXL Genesis vs MXL 960

As much as I'd like one for my U87, I don't even want to hazard a guess as to how much Neumann charges for it as a separate accessory. I bet it's pricey.

is there a tube mic

that's not?

There are many.

MXL V69M
MXL 960

All of the Neumann TLM line

Some from sE are dual tube or use the other half of a dual triode for impedance conversion.

Just because it has a tube doesn't mean it has a transformer. Just like some FET mics. Some have transformers, some don't.

The CAD M9 is op-amp balanced. :)
ot i know, but

can you point me

to any schematics?

:D

It's so exclusive that they don't, so you can't. If you want one, you're going to have to shell out the $3649.97 for the mic. :D

Of course the pity is that I prefer the older U87 to the current model U87ai. So I really wouldn't want to buy a mic i don't want in order to get a windscreen that i do want. If that makes any sense.:D

Thanks for the report, Harvey!

Wish MXL had kept the 960... but I guess using the same shell and basket would have made the 960 and Genesis seem too similar, at least on the outside.
I talked to Phil at MXL about that. According to him, the 960 is NOT discontinued.

I guess I must have misinterpreted the Musicians Friend listing and other sites selling it when they posted it as "discontinued". Now MF has it on "Clearance", but they're waiting for it another 22 days so they can have the inventory they need to "Clear".

Yeah, I saw the "clearance" tag on MF, but Phil checked while I was on the phone with MXL and word from the top is that they have no intention of discontinuing the 960. Is it true? I've been around enough companies to know that sometimes the left and right hands don't have great communication.

So MF says yes, apparently, and MXL says no.

Maybe its a supply and demand issue. They probably sat of MF's shelves for a while because of lack of a buzz and they may have decided to drop it. Now that there is a buzz they're probably trying to amp it, making folks think they'll be getting the last ones "so hurry before their all gone".

I dunno.

So....

How does it sound?

I'm out of seat to be on the edge of.:D

Alex is using it right now on a group in Studio A. I imagine we'll do a full blown test sometime this weekend.

WHAT???????????????????????????????

Tell me that´s not true, Harvey.

You´re one of the reasons why I come often! Don´t leave us! :o

Oh Harvey noooooo! I almost got fired from a job for using up the company ink and paper printing out your mic thread, and I didn't regret it one bit! I've learned so much from you and always look for your posts! Please, please, please! I think I speak on behalf of so many of us here when I beg you to stay! Please! :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

Sorry, but this has been going on with me almost from the day I started posting here. People accusing me of trying to start a cult following, thinking I'm some kinda god, and all kinds of crap. From Chessrock, DJL, Li Slim, and now Daisy.

All I've tried to do here is help people, and share some of the stuff I've leaned over the years, but I sure as hell don't need the shit I get from some people while I'm trying to be helpful.

Roger McGuinn was a regular participant in the alt.music.byrds group till one kid literally forced him to stop posting there. George Massenburg quit posting in rec.audio.pro after some idiot started hassling him. I'm not in Roger or George's league, but I understand about being hassled. This time, not only was I insulted, but Daisy insulted everybody that might listen to my suggestion.

At 71, I'm just too fuckin' old for this kiddie shit. I've tried to help here at HomeRec for over 7 years now. Yes, I realize that there are a lot of anonymous people out there on the net who like to cause shit, but that doesn't mean I hafta listen to them. So, I'm opting out.

You have some really great and knowledgeable people here who can easily fill any small void my leaving might create. Try to give them some respect.

WHAT????

Come on Harvey! You're too good to let this get to you!!!

Hell! It's pretty damn obvious to everyone here and everywhere else that "Daisy" is nothing more than a "wanna be"!

You're the real deal Harvey!!!!

F Daisy!!!!

That POS doesn't have HALF the experience or intellect you possess!

You can't abandon us now! You're our "Golden Child"!!!!

I can´t remember JUST ONE significant contribution to this forum by Chessrock... Always being an smartass and without giving advice to anyone (in many cases I think he acts that way because he simply can´t answer the question)...

BTW, dude, whatever you name is... Don´t think you´re such a big deal. You post to many empty posts spending much time and helping no one.
Do whatever you do in your real life but don´t disturb the flow of this wonderful forum...

Harvey, as I already said... If someone needs to go it´s not you.

Harvey, I'm not sure exactly what's going on but it would be a drag to see you go. I know the internet can be a real pain in the ass but there are alot of people (including myself) that really benefit from your advice and your experience. I really hope that you change your mind but if you don't thank you my friend and may your life bring you nothing but the best. Please know that for every asshat out there there are at least ten people (if not more) who do appreciate you.

:eek::eek::eek:

That ROYALLY SUCKS. Not that I can blame you.
I will still follow your posts, even though they won't be here.
HR.com has gained / lost many people over the years but losing Harvey is a huge loss.
