Hey fellas,
I've been making tunes on my PC now for about two years, mostly psuedo electronic stuff, not very aucoustic, unfortunately I'm not extremely proficient with any instrument, can play a tiny bit of acoustic guitar/bass and some piano/keyboard. Anyways, I've found that it's almost impossible to get really fat, warm bass sounds out of any keyboard (I use the Triton Pro) or sound module, let alone the scads of samples found on the net or within programs I've been using. So I've decided to go out and get me a bass and start learning how to give my tunes a solid backbone. My question is what brand/bass would you guys recomend for a beginner that is going to give an extremely fat, warm sound? I've got around $250, is that a feasible price range? Think e-bay's the place to go? Also, as I said I'm into electronic stuff, mostly downtempo ambient stuff, so I was also wondering what kind of fx boxes/peddles you guys would use/recommend to get the sound even richer, warmer, fuller and/or to just plain make some bizare ambient sounds. I own Korg's Kaoss pad which is a very useful tool that fucks with guitar sounds and will undoubtedly do some damage w/ the bass but was just wondering what other fx there are out there dedicated solely to the bass. And just out of curiousity, any of y'all play a fretless? Are they ridiculously expensive and/or hard to learn? Sorry about the excess amounts of questions, and thanks alot in advance for any advice!
