I've been looking at purchasing the Hercules 1612fw..... but one thing they have failed to mention in the specs on the website is whether it is firewire bus powered or not......

I would also like to know whether i can use all 16 channels at once and record them all.........

I know it is noobish but I'd rather know than not know.....

I did a search on it and wasn't able to find anything about the firewire bus powering either. Normally, a device having the capability of being bus powered is considdered a huge plus, so if they very obviously did not mention it, then the safe assumption would be that it does not support power via firewire bus.

Yes, you should be able to record all 16 channels at once. If you couldn't, then there wouldn't be much point in having 16 different channels. Keep in mind, however, that 4 of those 16 channels come in over digital medium. It has 12 regular analong inputs, 2 channels are coax S/PDIF, and 2 channels are optical S/PDIF. Those 4 digital channels can only be used by devices that have digital outputs.

It's not Firewire-powered. However, every unit involving phantom power will most likely not be able to get it's power (only) from the Firewire bus.
