Whenever I use my Fireport to drop my files onto my computer, the computer will have no problem detecting the Fireport the first time I connect. However, if I disconnect it (using the prescribed method in the manual) and attempt to reconnect, my computer will not detect it. I have to reboot my computer before it will detect the Fireport again.

Any thoughts or advice? Thanks.

Hey youre lucky..I have to reinstall!! If youre referring to a mult mix alesis board, then its a driver issue. You must go get the fix at the alesis website. Be warned though, the fix only fixed the problem for two days and it destablized my other programs. I had to totally reinstall reason and then the drivers for the multi mix vanished again. I have had nothing but problems with my unit.
They also have a bunk, non-grounded power supply that leaves a crackle in the mix. Never had the drivers working long enough to determine wether or not it was the power supply or a latency problem, but they suggest using a grounding plug adapter if you should have such a problem, but it only helps it doesnt really cure it all the way.
I personlly just got off the phone with zzounds and I think Im going to send the board back and opt for like a pre-sonus interface. Its another $150 but its got 8 pre amps and should actually connect and work right. I humbly suggest you do the same. :(

Nope, I'm talking about the Fireport, which you use to transfer files from the HD24's drives onto the computer via Firewire. Sorry to hear about your bad experience with the multimix though. Good luck with that.

Anybody? Any ideas?

I tried to recreate your problem on mine, seems to work fine. Disconnected several times, transferred back and forth, and I wouldn't have to reboot.

Could be anything, but my first guess would be an oddball firewire card or driver problem.
I'm using a generic 1394A card under XP with no issues.

The first thing I would do is to try a different firewire card and cable.
In fact, my cable that came with the FirePort was DOA, it took me several days to track it down.

Sorry man, I know it's not much of a help, but if everything works right you shouldn't have this problem.

Jeesh... I've been struggling with my new fireport all night (problem being the software is just unable to see the drive) ... so I've come here and just read your firewire cable was DOA, so i just switched it for another I had lying around, and it worked first time! (thanks loads for that small piece of info)

Alesis are shipping out dud firewire cables then... also the fireport power pack stopped working just now, it was just making worrying electrical clicking noises, but plugging the unit into a different wall socket has fixed the problem for now

The HD24 is quality, but this thing looks dodgy... it's going back in the morning for a replacement at least
