Hey guys, I'm new to Homerecording.com and I have a few questions pertaining to Guitar Amps.
I currently play on a Schecter Damien Elite-7 String and I've been playing through a Line6 Spider IV 15W for about 3 years now.
I definitely need to upgrade to a larger amp for bigger venues. I know I need something thats going to be good for live performances, but my main issue is recording. I love the bands like Animals as Leaders, Periphery, and Meshuggah, and I love the sounds of their guitars, but I'm not at all sure of how to attain a sound similar to theirs without dropping $2500 on an Axe Fx, or $2000 on a decent Tube Amp.

I've always been a fan of Line6 equipment because of the versatility and power they offer for such a reasonable price, but I've heard that Line6 is Line6 tone. I havent yet experimented with any pedals and I've heard anything outside of a POD just doesnt work well with Line6.
A buddy of mine has a Line6 cab powered by a Bogner/Line6 tube amp and it sounds great on the mid-high end, but the low range is muddy and not as clear as I'd like it to sound. (I use a 7 string, usually downtuned with higher gauge strings).

My price range is anywhere around $1000. I would really appreciate some recommendations for heavy distortion without sacrificing too much clarity. Animals as Leaders and Periphery have that awesome Punch sound to their guitars. High gain, lots of compression, crisp and clear mids and highs, but without sacrificing too much on the low end. I have to keep in mind that I like to play low and heavy (I sometimes tune down to F# for 8 string guitar tuning on my 7 string) and the typical guitar amps just dont support those frequencies well, IMO.

Any clarity on this subject would be great. I havent had much or any experimentation with Pedals or other Amps other than Line6, and I need to hear from other guitar players who enjoy the guitar sounds that I like too. Reviews for the JCM-800 are great, and I know Bogner tubes work great for heavy tone and high gain. But most of those reviews feature bands like Slayer, A7X, or Metallica, and those are not bands I want to sound like. I want my guitar to sound like modern Progressive Metal guitars, not grungy, oldschool hard rock.

Are you dead set on valves Cal'? If so I don't think $1000 will get you far.

If not there is a very well reviewed solid state amp range on the market now but it would be spammy of me to IDentify them!

Dave.

Ooops!
Did not see that John.

Anyhoos I am wrong! You CAN get a blinding 2x12 60W* valve amp for just under $1000.

The amp whch must not be named has FX loop, emulated out, reverb and comes with a comprehensive footswitch.

*Never known one kick less than about 80W!

Dave.
