"All she wants is the change that's on the table..."

Man, I'm diggin' these words, and your singing. Could dig even a little more piano (not volume, but featured in more places). Drums and bass are well-played, nice groove, but I can hear something dropping out and coming back in...compression maybe? Snare could be beefier, but that's a personal preference...this song has such cool words, that's a nitpick.
Really well-written and performed. I think once the local gurus give specific mix suggestions, this song will cook.
Strong material, singing, playing...strong mix will make it killer.
Hats off, Norm.

Man, I can't help you. I like this a lot. (still listening...spin #3). Yep, I can't help you. Wait, there's something...Turn the lead vocal up a hair. Your voice is so smooth, it kinda' almost blends into the background. Nice hook. Man, I just like this. I'll say it again, I can't help you. Maybe you could help me? How the f&^% do you get those highs without even a hint of obnoxiousness. It's like air...

...a breath of fresh air, that's what this is to me...I can't help you, but I'm looking forward to more.

nice job (and please tell me how the f*&% you get those highs).

Did I mention that I can't help you?

post lots,
-chris

Nothing wrong with this mix to my ears.Maybe some of the heavy hitters will weigh in and tear it apart. Nice clean tracks and everything is well balanced.Great harmonies and ooh's and ahh's.....very good job.....I know this is your first recording thats made it to the net but surely it isnt your first try at recording.;)

2 thumbs up.:)

WOW..............

And after waiting in the shadows all these months and soaking info from all of you I almost had the nerve to post some of my stuff!
This is as smooth as a new set of strings. Maybe having the Lead Vocal out front a tad more would be nice but the instruments flow together beautifully.
Strong material

And to think I don't really care for this style of music!

Norm Mix, Thanks for sharing a fine piece!

Back to the drawing board for me !

Joel

I really like this one. Your mix is perfect, it really is. Great separation of all the ingredients. I'd be a fool to offer contructive critism. Think I'll just sit back and enjoy the rest of it......

Thanks! Here's A Gear List

Thanks guys for your input! Seems like it took me forever to get through the learning curve to get to this point. I'm more of a musician than a tech-guy. Reading these forums and asking questions and getting ideas have really helped me. I don't know if I could have done this without the help of these forums.

I'm a one man person on this production: Writing playing and singing everything in my bedroom studio:
1. Pentium III - 800
2. 192 mg RAM
3. 8g (5400) and 40g (7200) hard drives
4. Sound card: Audiophile 2496
5. Sonar (about 27 tracks of audio -
still running smooth at 16 bit)
6. Plugins - mostly used Timeworks 4080L
Reverb (Just a little on Vocals)
7. Mastered with T-RACKS
8. Mackie 1604 VLZ mixer
9. Monitors: Event 20/20
10. Hafler P1500 poweramp
11. Road NT2 mic for vocals & acoustic
guitar
12. '66 Strat with Line 6 POD2
13. EF-340S Takamine acoustic guitar
14. Fender Precision - 5 string bass
15. Alesis QS-8 - for drums and piano

All other input would be very welcome, Norm

Here's some input for you.

1. Great song - listened to it a few more times. The verses, bridge, length of the song...very well structured, and I still think the hook's great.

2. At some point in the next couple of days, somebody will find something wrong with it...that's a good thing.

2. I'm still waiting for you to tell me how the f*&% you got those highs...(just tell me it doesn't REALLY sound as good at your house...tell me it's the MP3 encoder...I won't believe you, but I'll have an answer).

:D

thanks again for this,
-chris

Amazing, the only country music I listen to is the stuff that gets put up on this site (I'm not really one for Country) ... lol

Anyway, this mix sounds real good. -- IMHOP -- I think the drums could use a tiny boost, and you may even raise the vox a bit, but that just may be my machine since I can only listen in lo-fi ...

I really like the harmonies you have going on there. Overall this sounds real good and I think you had a good fade at the end.

Nice job!

the only thing that bugged me was the kick drum...and that is probably more the sound of it ...being a personal opinion more than anything...then..the snare drum...

And being a tad picky...is the "stiffness" of the tune. I tend to harp on the negatives....yeah..I know...so if it is left unsaid, consider it WELL DONE.

nice "first" post Mr. Mix. something solid to "lean" on...;) (get it??....post....lean on??..... ) seriously...keep em coming:)

Pretty good, man!

Pretty good!

No, damn good!;)

Norm, definately a good, well played tune. Just my humble opinion but I thought it had a bit too much high end in the mix. I just prefere a smoother sound over an exagerated high end. But great job on the tune.

chrisharris

chrisharris, The highs sound pretty smooth on my system

Do you mean overall highs?
I pretty much recorded everything flat.
Except for vocals, acoustic guitars, QS-8 piano
I dipped the mids on the mackie just a tad going in.
I boosted the highs just a small amount overall in
the mastering program T-Racks
(Maybe too much as Track Rat Pointed out)...Norm

Good song, are we gonna hear more in the future? How long have you been recording? Sounded good to me. I listen again when I get home from work, I had to listen lo-fi here.
