Thanks y'all!!
mixmkr – In the intro...the timing on the mando seems a tad off...especially the last chord before the song kicks in. Got it! I’ll do a re-track because I l-o-v-e playing that damned mando!! SHEESH! Did you notice I let the guitar decay ring out on the last note? Man, I can’t let nuthin’ slip past them thar ears!! Thanks for caring!! AND – let’s do a standard! Name the tune – I’ll start learning the mando parts – Spring would be a good goal – what say you?
Powderfinger – Thanks for the comeback – I’ll level it up ‘cause I agree, it’s sort of hiding. I appreciate the re-listen and the great advice! You really helped me nail the mix and I truly appreciate it!!
A1A2 – Be careful or we’ll make a bluegrass convert out of you! It does get addictive and requires a lot of precision playing and singing. Glad you liked the backing vox – (everything you hear is me) – I was sort of amazed that I arrived at those levels – t’wasn’t easy – my wife’s pretty darned sick of hearing this song!! And yes, there’s a 2db cut at 200hz on the backups – good ears!! Thanks for the listen and the comments!!
Lynx – WOW! That’s’a heap ‘o praise! Thanks!! I listen to that CD a lot – very keen musicianship happening there. Thanks again!!
Sloop – So I was reading an article about recording the bass last night – I might have to try a few techniques even though it will require a re-track. But the thump is pretty critical considering this stuff is usually played with a plucked upright. Thanks for taking the time to listen and critique!!
TripleM – Thanks for the more-than-kind comments! When I get positive feedback from real bluegrass fans it means a lot! It’s pretty new to me from the players perspective – I’ve listened to it for years but only started playing it recently. What a catch on the word ‘future’ – I’ll go have a look at the pop filter for artifacts! I did not catch that at all after a thousand listens – now it sticks out! Might have to do some surgery there. Thanks a lot for listening and commenting!!
Skids - Yeah there are some super critical ears out there – that’s super cool – they catch all sorts of things that slide by when you’re doing it all yourself. I really wish I could afford to have someone mix for me. It’s rewarding when it’s finished but I’m spending hours hanging out the window, smoking a cigarette, then running over to the recorder to push a slider 1 millimeter – oh yeah – then I push it back!! Thanks for the listen and the very nice comments. I agree with you – I listen to more music from these BBS members than anything else.
And a hearty tip of the old "Appreciation Hat" to you all!!
