I need to filter my bass before tracking to remove some of the bottom end (thanks ssscientist). Does the step filter plugin as an insert effect achieve this, or another cubase le plugin.
Any suggestions

?filter it before tracking?

I would suggest you use the parametric EQ to remove any unwanted frequencies after tracking (during mixdown). The far left frequency EQ section should be set up to do either a low shelf (decrease volume of frequencies) or low cut (eliminate frequencies), depending on how you set the Q (width) parameter.

Edit: I just saw your post in the TASCAM forum. You would need a preamp/di with a low cut/high pass filter built in to perform the cut prior to the 122. Otherwise you will still get the clip indicator. I still stand by my assertion that you can cut the frequencies after tracking and that should allow you to turn the bass up, if those were the offending frequencies. Also, an outboard compressor might help tame some of your volume problems if you can't fix it at mixdown.

Hey Thanks scrubs. I'll give that a go. If it means I don't have to re-record the bass I like it even more. Other than clipping the bass does seem to muffle the bottom end , or mess it up. Man, I think I am a pretty good musician ( watch out for the head) but recording is way harder than I thought. Whenever I think I am almost finished a track I discover something new or that I was doing wrong and back track.

Hey another thought, having the tone on my bass guitar turned all the way down will probably affect this to?
