Fender Strat

I have a American Strat and a cheaper Strat, how can i stop the hum/buzz on the individual pickup selections. On the cheaper strat it has 5 selections and the American has 3.

What year is your american strat...

I've got a late 90's American Standard Strat....It has 5........I don't think I've seen a 3 switch on a strat....then again I haven't played the new American Strat...w/ the SW1 switching stuff......would like to someday....

You can't stop the hum.. single coil pickups hum.

You can buy different pickups, that are silent on any switch, with full distortion. I think they are called something like "hot silent".

The cheaper strats do not come standard with these pickups.

All single coil pickups hum, but you don't necessarily need to replace them:

I've never seen a three pickup Strat that didn't have a 5-way switch.
