Anyone played one ? Got any opinions on this vs. a thinline/72' Custom/Nashvile Deluxe ?

I have to get a second guitar quick to complement my Strat and there are a few of these on eBay.co.uk

What kind of music do you play? Teles are sometimes more commonly seen in a country music enviroment.

I'm not sure I would consider buying a guitar on EBay, as there are just too many variables.

Lot's of different types. Country tones do play a part although It's not a style I really play (if you know what I mean).

I need something with with a fixed bridge, doesn't need to have hugely hot pickups, I like maple necks, and a nice natural sustain.

There aren't many options locally to try before I buy. And as I said I need a second guitar quickly as I have a series of gigs with a band that needs a quick changeover to a guitar with an alternate tuning.

I do find the standard Tele's to be a little thin sounding in some pickup postions, and I like the I idea of at least one humbucker.

I'm not talking about spending a huge amount of money, and I know a good guitar tech, so I'm not too worried about the ebay route.

Have you used any of the above ?
 
I've never had a problem buying guitars (or anything else for that matter) on ebay. As long as the seller is reputable (easy to see by the number next to their name) and the guitar looks good. It's always been safe enough for me. Sure, I probably wouldn't buy a multi-thousand dollar guitar on ebay, but ebay has been good to me so far.
 
There is no reason to avoid buying a guitar on eBay. The only trick is to deal with reputable sellers, but the eBay feedback makes this easy. I don't sell on eBay directly, but one of our families close friends sells many guitars online, probably close to 100 a year. He has impeccable feedback, which he has developed very carefully over the years he has been doing this. He is honest to a fault in his auctions, and this is why he has such great feedback. When I do feel the need to sell a guitar on eBay, I have him consign it for me, and pay him a 10% consigners fee, specifically because of his feedback. He sells VERY high end guitar this way, and no one has ever complained about doing business with him on eBay.

Stick to sellers with great feedback, and your eBay experiences will be just fine.

I have a 67 Tele, which is a great guitar. I have no experience with the current tele models.

There are lots of good guitars out there for an alt tuning. Gibson has some Epiphone Les Pauls that work well and have a good tone.

My concern for guitars from EBay is not so much the dealer but the guitar. Guitars are somewhat personal in nature, and you can't "feel" a guitar from EBay.

True, but the reputable sellers are upfront about the condition of the instruments, and many of them may be willing to take the guitars back (my friend does this, as it helps to ensure good feedback). He has, to the best of my knowledge, never had to return anyone’s money, but even if he did, you could just turn around and put it up for auction again.

What I mean is that I want to feel and play a guitar before buying it. It's not a question of condition or even shipping, but the actual guitar.

I bought a PRS last year at a GC store. They had16 in stock, and 5 of the model I wanted. Two were identical in color and features, but one felt different.

If I'm buying a guitar to play, I generally want to play it first, then decide. If I'm buying it as a collectors items, then things are different.

I've never seen an electric guitar I couldn't set up to play well. Especially cookie cutters from Fender and Gibson.
 
Go thinline. I have a reissue and love it. The semi hollow body creates some really great tones. The semi hollow body is great (imho)...I think it would provide the biggest departure from your strat.
 
There's a guy selling a reissue thinline that looks great.

The only catch is he won't post it, he wants it to be collected.

At the moment it's between that and a nashville tele (with the strat tex-mex pickup)

Have you played the Nashville ?
