Yeah.. Chuck Schooldinner wasn't too bad, and he always picked good lead guitar players for his albums.. R.I.P.

Never listened to Mercyful Fate.
Trey Azagthoth.. hell yes.. and I might add Trey Spruance (faith no more/mr bungle)

Darkane and Soilwork are must-haves for anyone into metal..

Sorry, Meshuggah. After I read W.I.S.C.'s post I remembered that you had listed a bunch of guys already.

I'll have to admit that there are several in Meshuggah's list (and a couple in W.I.S.C.'s) that I've not heard play, although I do recognize most of the names. I just don't listen to much in the death metal genre. I used to listen to Testament back in the day, but I lost interest in them after Souls of Black or thereabouts. Kinda the same thing for Prong, Pantera, KD, and Judas Priest (lost interest in them after Defenders of the Faith, although that pick sweep in "Painkiller" by GT is pretty awesome). And Marty Friedman is strictly a new-age guitarist these days, from what I've heard.

But like I said, I may be somewhat out of the loop when it comes to new metal guitarists. I just haven't had anything that prods me to go check them out, either.

Wolf ur my fav person in this forum you said my fav guitarist and my personal I dol Criss Olivia and of course the other guitarist of savatage Alex Skolnik...these are my too favs but also Kai Hanesen....Has anyone heard the two guitarists of Lost Horizon they are seriously bad asses....I'm not sure of their names but they know what the metal goods are....oh forgot about James Mruphy, Dave Murry, and Adrian Young of Iron Maiden, and Chris Holmes of W.A.S.P

Are Savatage any famous there in the states?
I mean, beside the great musicians (stevens, oliva, skolnick, pitrelli...), they write unbelievable songs!
I sometimes pick up us guitar mags but noone ever mentioned Criss.
Another great guitarist is Tore Otsby, Conception-Ark.

Kai is my God, he is perfect. Good player, great singer and charismatic entertainer.
 
Rocknwolf I'm sorry to say Savatage isn't respected here in the states but their side project Trans-Siberian Orchestra is...Criss is my reason for playing guitar for 11 years and i have been so passionate about my playing ever since then and Kai is another major influence his work with Gamma Ray Iron Savior and Stratovarious...I am so moved by Powermetal it is like ridding the wings of an eagle on a metal crusade the musicians are of High caliber and are by far completly dedicated to the music...they respect other's music just the same ...I have wrote mags here wanting to know if and when they will do an article on Criss but they keep on saying that they have to get whats in now first before they can do that...It is a shame such an awsome player can be put aside for other living players with less magnitude in their playing

I don't know... Korn is kinda funny to judge. They're sort of like Metallica in that their earlier material (Korn - Life is Peachy; Metallica - Ride the Lightning) demonstrated superior musicianship to their later material, though the later material sold one heck of a lot more records. You can't really judge their musicianship (fairly) based on recent stuff. Either way, the guys in Korn aren't exactly technically awesome players, but they were doing some really wacky stuff that nobody else dared to do at the time.
