Listening through a pair of Altec computer speakers, it sounds great, very open sounding. Like the chord progressions and the drum sound. Would be interested in knowing how and what your using to record. Will d/l it again and listen to it through some better speakers and post back. Good job.

Hey folks, check out my first all-audio creation (except the midi organ) using CWPA 9. It's called "Fatal Flaw." I put this together with a couple friends for fun. Any comments? Be kind. We plan to do more. I'll periodically put up some samples when they are ready. Thanks!

This is a very good song. Not exactly "Don't Worry Be Happy"...lol...a dark tune that works..really enjoyed the harmonies, the overall feel, and the mix...how many people? Vocal overdubs? Who played what? Who wrote lyrics/music? Lots of questions, I know, but I liked it...gibs

Wow, thanks very much! I am using Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 as my multitrack software. My studio consists of a spare bedroom for the control room and another smaller room (roughly 6' x 9') as the "live" room. In there the drums (an old '60s Ludwig jazz kit) were done using just a pair of EV 408's as overheads and an AKG D112 for the bass drum. The nylon and acoustic guitars were recorded with an SM57, as were the vocals(!), although those were sent through a ART Tube MP to warm them up. One day soon I hope to get a decent condensor mic for vocals and acoustic stuff. Anyhoo, the bass & electic guitars were recorded direct. The organ is a soundfont patch controlled by midi. All effects, including the electric guitar distortion and effects, are plugins. I played drums, percussion, keyboards, engineered & produced. I have a couple of friends who wrote the tune, one played guitars & fretless bass and the other sang. I'm glad you dug it. Please let me know any other comments you may have. I'll post some more stuff when it's ready. Thanks again.

Excellent job! Nice mix - I really dug the lead vocals. Great drum sound - I'm looking forward to more.

Awsome song. I like the production. Who is the singer? Man, the MP3 post are getting better and better here.

Yea! this is very good! My oldest daughter likes this kind of music, and so do I, but if she gives it two thumbs up ( and she did ) well you got something there. great work!

very good
only the intro of classicalguitar alittle out of time
tell me how you mix

I am not the most qualified person to comment on this at all, but I really, really liked the way the drums fit into the mix... I didn't at first, but they grew on me once the rest of the song kicked in. Sweet. The guitar has this kind of old 70's sound to it-- I don't know why, but the whole thing for some reason reminds me of "Bell Bottom Blues"-- I think it's the guitar. I guess I'm getting off topic...nice recording, good job!

Very nice, good recording, great playing, and singing. Don't stop now!!

Wow Terry, I'm with everyone else on this one...great job! I'm particularly impressed with the drums especially given your minimal mic usage. It's hard enough to get a full drum sound with a locker full of mics. Plug ins for the guitar on this one? Wow, which ones? Everything sounds great. I eagerly await your next post.

Nate: There are no qualifications other than ears!

Jeez! I'm flabbergasted. I had no idea you folks would dig this that much. It was mainly just an experiment to try out recording some audio. I mostly do MIDI with only minimal audio tracks, although I'm definitely moving toward doing much more audio. I basically owe the whole thing, techwise, to Cakewalk PA 9. It's so intuitive to use and has fantastic features. If anybody is looking to move into DAW recording, I highly recomend it over all others!! The funny thing is, I hate to admit, I mix on some crappy $100 Yamaha bookshelf speakers. I'm getting some real monitors very soon, as well as a few other badly needed items. Also, I would be remiss if I didn't give a huge amount of credit to A)my two partners who wrote the song (very quickly I might add) and performed most of the parts (I did drums, percussion and keys) and B) my instructor, Hillary Johnson (www.hillaryjohnson.com) of the 12-week recording workshop I just took last fall, Manhattan Recording Workshop. if y ou are in the NYC area, check it out!

CMiller: The plugins are a combo of the Cakewalk package that came with CWPA9 and the Digilogue BlueLine package that was reveiwed in Recording magazine January '00.

Yo! I'm the cat that played the guitars, bass and wrote the music. Thanks for the props. (Especially the Derek & The Dominos one. I wouldn't have thought that, but I'm willing to accept any comparisons to Eric Clapton and Duane Allman.) I'm hip about that guitar being out of time; we meant to redo it once the bass and drums were added, but never did. It was also the first time I had recorded any guitar parts in many years (I'm mostly a bass player).

Look for more to come...
