Been thinking about buying EZ drummer, but wanted to check some stuff first if possible - anyone know if it directly interfaces with Ableton, and if so how?

Also, I've read a few comments on music on here along the lines of 'sounds like you've used EZ drummer there.' Does it have a fairly generic EZ Drummer sound or is it quite malleable?

It's for Ableton 5 by the way (never got round to updating) - I don't know if this affects anything in terms of functionality.

Cheers :)

From a Google of 'EZDrummer and Ableton', it looks like others have it working, though not sure about 5. :)

I'm pretty sure I would be able to pick out the sounds myself, though I spend quite a bit of time with it. The average listener wouldn't. There are also expansion kits with different samples. For the price though, I would say it is a good deal. I often use EZD to create drum tracks, then replace drums with SS Trigger.

the only problem i see with ableton 5 is that you cant group tracks so you cant create a master bus for the entire drum set...you can still channel out each drum to its own channel pretty easily...well i think you can 5 is pretty old ;)

I have the basic superior kit and it sound excellent...i think the problem with EZ drummer is that people are lazy.. if you just stick the basic sounds up with a robotic midi file then its going to be pretty easy to spot

Some of its add on kits are excellent and fairly cheap..the last one "The Classic" gets brilliant reviews

also keep in mind BFD2 Eco...its their EZ drummer version...its on sale for $29 just now....man thats a bargain

Thanks both - I've been using the Simpler function on Ableton to program drums and thinking there has to be a better way than beat by beat and with limited functionality.

I'm still stuck on Ableton 5 as my PC is over 10 years old and I'm worried my CPU couldn't handle the upgrade - it takes enough freezing tracks to get my mixes to play as it is. I guess if it's laziness in the programming rather than the program itself that makes it sound rather generic at times, then that's fine with me.

Thanks for the BFD tip too. I just had a look on the website - shipping and tax add a few extra quid onto the price, but it looks good. I might get me one of those ordered

ToonTrack has a compatibility chart online, Ableton is listed, ver. 6 and above.

The one thing that makes EZD stand out is the room mic, it has a distinctive signature. Turn it down and EZD is not so easy to spot. Change up the canned groove files by editing them once you've dragged them into your projec and it is even more difficult to spot. make more variations and less repetition.

I agree with KC, people don't take the time to customize ezd and it sounds very generic. I think it's great if you put some effort into making your drum tracks unique.

my 2 cents...

Excellent, thanks for your help Chili - sounds like it can be as good as you're willing/able to make it, which is what I wanted to hear.

I think I'll go for one of the two - and if it doesn't end up being compatible with Ableton 5, then it's probably time to pay for the upgrade :)

EZD is the most amazing plugin. I just used on my new song for the first time and all I can say is wow. If it works for, BUY IT
