anyone ever heard of evp (electric voice phenomenon), such as is in the film "White Noise". i know what it is, i just don't know how to edit or record such a clip. any suggestions?

as far as i know, you just leave a microphone and recorder in a quiet, empty room and let it record. i guess if you record for, say, 2 hours, you have to go back and listen to the entire two hours of silence and hope you hear something!

i remember seeing a television show about it several years ago, the show itself was from the late 70's or early 80's.... and the people doing the recordings were just using those older portable tape recorders, so you don't really need any fancy equipment.

yeah i was actually going to do that the other day... my friend lives in a house that was the first hospital in town (built like 120 years ago) and now it's apartments... we went into the attic and there are nooses hanging from the rafters and old newspapers as insulation and things of the sort. we've seen many crazy orbs in real life and our photographs and have had many weird encounters. it's pretty creepy :o  . anyways, yeah, i think that's all you do, just leave a tape recorder in a room. if i record anything cool i'll post it

but it's more than that. u have to ask a spirit of your choice questions, give it 10 seconds to respond. but most basse recording only qualify as a base C, which means u can hear it only if ur listening for it. u have to edit it to make it a Class A, which means anyone can hear it. i have some instructions for Cool Edit, but i use PA9. and if i'm right, white noise is a combination of all the frequencies from 3 hertz to 3 kilohertz, all audible frequencies to human ears. am i right? i want to record it, i just don't know how to edit it.

i'm assuming you've checked out the American Association of EVP website.... (if not it is www.aaevp.com)
the instructions on that site are for cool edit, but it will be the same for whatever program you use.... they are basically using noise reduction, normalize, filters, pitchshift, etc. the program you are using to record should have all of those functions. if not, i'm sure you can download some free plugins of those effects.
i can't answer the question about white noise, but it seems to me that a loud computer fan would be a good source of constant noise to use for the recordings.

well if you ever get around to recording any EVP, i hope that you leave a post on this site so that we can check it out.

good luck
