Ever have active monitors die? Is extended warantee through SquareTrade worth it?

I'm on the fence about this. I've got a new pair of Hafler 6.1 biamped active monitors on the way. Because they are close-out and Hafler is defunct, there is no manufacturers warantee. For $28 SquareTrade will give me a 3 year fix it or Money back warantee. The monitors where only $330 total shipped, but they retailed at like $1000.

Do you think it is worth it for the warantee (opinion or experiences)?

Ever have a Biamped Monitor crap out?

I've had plenty of 20-30+ year old audio gear that worked fine. Murphys law says "buy the warantee and they'll last at least 37 months, don't buy it and they'll probably have an issue in 10 months". I've always like Haflers sound and build quality though, especially compared to a lot of the crap from Asia that has contributed to this classic company going under. I know their amps are bomber.

Anyone have experience getting SquareTrade to pay up?

Maybe I'm just being cheap. I'm such a "gear bottom feeder" :p

I would say that if you can afford it then it might be a Good Option as you don"t want to open the Box and Plug them in to find out they don"t work and then haveing to try to deal with the seller to give you a refund when he will blame the Breakage on the Shipping and tell you to make a claim through USPS/UPS.....

And if the Speakers do work and you use them for 2 years without problems and then they break you can get them fixed for next to nothing.....

I would read through Square Trades warrenty policy very thouroughly to make sure there aren"t any Loop holes that they can jump through to avoid fixing your speakers if they break.....

Cheers

Probably one of almost every pair I've ever owned. For $28, get the extended warranty.

I realize this thread is a bit old but be aware that unless repair is an easy slam dunk thing Square Trade will just refund what you paid, the $330. So its really not appropriate to consider that they are worth $1,000. Also, I wouldn't necessarily trust that if something happened to a component, particularly a driver, that square trade would guarantee they will fix it to specs. You might just get any driver they thought was close enough.
