Well, I hope everyone watched Eurovision over the weekend, believe it or not we watch it in Oz even though we can't enter and can't vote. People set up Eurovision parties and Australia has an unofficial vote on line. It is just classic.

This was my highlight.

I was involved in theatre stuff over the whole weekend, so I missed Eurovision this year. I agree . . . it's a classic and shouldn't be missed!

As a kid in the 70s, it was required viewing. We never missed it. The quality of some of the songs was fantastic. A number of great singles {like "Power to all our friends", "Beg, steal or borrow", "Long live love", "Waterloo", "Ding a dong" "All kinds of everything"} in the UK charts during the early to mid 70s came from Eurovision. It was like "Miss United Kingdom" and "Miss World". We never missed them. Looking back on it, I find it interesting that we found such pap interesting, but we loved competition and arguing !
Eurovision was frustrating because it meant the football would be on later than usual on a saturday and even though it was once a year, I was busting like I wanted to go to the toilet. I could not wait for it to end. But I also liked it so it was kind of paradoxical. The last one I saw was in 1983.

Like Christmas, it comes but once a year........thankfully !

it has gotten pretty bad...and I know I have not much experience in it, but the excitement seems to have gone a bit from when I was younger. And did anyone else think the male presenter looked stupidly annoyingly smiley?

Gotten Bad? It's always had an element of bad, in fact over the last few years the actual show has got better. I know that the music is pre-recorded, due mostly to a very tight changeover between acts, but all vocals must be live and the vocals for most acts were very good.

And did anyone else think the male presenter looked stupidly annoyingly smiley?

The presenters were classic, I could not stop laughing at the humour attempts and the hideously long gaps before punch lines. The other classic bad moments are when the votes come in during the finals, they cross to every country for a few minutes and some of those people are just priceless.

Good thing we got the Russian Grannies to keep us sane.

To everyone that missed it check out the official website

It's funny I used to watch it when I was very young and then as I reached teenage I thought it was crap and I was serous about my music (maybe too serious), now I watch it as it just gives me a few laughs and a smile and don't take it too seriously, which is what music should do to you.

Cheers
Alan.
