Powered Mixer/7 Band EQ Help.

Could someone help me with a 7 band eq on a Powered PA Mixer. What would I set the EQ at? Is there a common setting? I usually run 2 Vocals and a guitar through it, if thats needed in anyway.

In short, you set it for what you need at that moment in that room. It will be different in different rooms. Sometimes it will change in the *same* room depending on several factors.

There is no *right* setting except for the setting that works.

I agree with all that's been said so far.

One technique that I have found useful to get the basic EQ curve for a room is as follows:

  1. Set up the system with mics and speakers in their places. Announce to anyone present that you'll be adjusting the sound system, and that there will be some irritating noises for a few minutes.
  2. With all faders down, and all EQ sliders at zero, turn the power on.
  3. Bring up the mics to unity gain.
  4. Gradually bring up the master fader until feedback begins. Back off a bit on the master fader to stop the feedback.
  5. Estimate the frequency of the feedback.
  6. Bring down the EQ slider that's closest to the estimated frequency.
  7. Go back to step 4. Repeat until the feedback frequency is no longer distinct, or until you've have to take an EQ cut of more than a few dB.
Of course, you'll need to train your ear to estimate the center frequencies of your EQ.

Also understand that the empty room may have a drastically different response than it will have when it's filled with your adoring fans. The resulting EQ curve should be a reasonably good starting point, though.
