sosob said:EQ and mastering should not be used in the same sentence (except now)..I hate the thought that professional mastering engineers would use any kind of EQ in a final master! I'm outraged that people make i living out of primarily using an EQ for mastering!!!!- i don't care if it's loaded with hot vintage tubes either!.. If it needs any kind of EQ level adjustment it needs to be remixed, simple as that. Throw your EQ in the bin now!!!! There are 101 ways of tweaking frequencies without using an EQ!!!- Umm Hello? heard of r.e.v.e.r.b ???! -my 2 cents.
I just have to ask: is it appropriate for me to laugh at this post, especially the reverb part?
Gee whiz... if it needs EQ, use EQ, if it needs, compression, use compression (sometimes some subtle multiband compression can work wonders), if it doesn't need anything, don't use anything, if it needs a quarter ton of TNT strapped to the mixing deck, well, at that point I wouldn't even considering the mastering stage, but using reverb to control frequencies? That makes no sense at all. I mean, even if that were a sensible suggestion, wouldn't the reverb just be acting like some sort of beyond-hyper artifact-generating (for lack of an appropriate technical term) EQ anyhow? I don't know why I even bothered to ask that question... the answer is obvious to anyone who knows what reverb is actually for... sheesh.
