Still working on this guitar. I know it's cheap, exactly why I wanted it. I didn't like the compensated bridge it had and with some research found that many gibson sg jrs had badass style bridges. So I bought one, but just can't get the guitar to intonate (new to this), and the strings are high closer to the pickups (1/4" approx.) compared to the nut (1/16" approx.). So before I take this to someone who knows what they are doing and paying out money, are there any suggestions as to what I might try. I was thinking maybe the neck might need some adjustment, but will not try it without some advice.
By the way I'm checking the intonation by fretting the strings at the 12th fret and using a tuner. Is this right? Thanks for any help in advance.

If you're not sure how to fully set up your guitar have a pro do it, especially neck adjustments. You can break a truss rod in a split second if you don't know what you're doing.

The compensated bridge can be intonated properly, you just need to know how to set it. You have screws that go up and down that raise or lower the strings from the fret board, and screws that go in and out to move the bridge towards or away from the fretboard. Finding the right adjustment will give you proper intonation but everything has to be set up properly.

In a nutshell it goes like this.

Make sure all frets are level and polished.

Cut the nut correctly so it is the correct hight and strings move freely through the slots without binding or buzzing.

Set the action you want and the neck relief that allows playing without buzzes and strings choking.

Adjust the intonation to suit the gauge of strings you use.

The first step in adjusting the intonation is to match the fretted not at the octave (12th fret) to match the harmonic of the same or mid point of the string. There is subsequently a lot of understanding and tempering that needs to be done to understand why your guitar still sounds out of tune after doing all that.
