EMU 1820M... opinions please

You get Cubase VST 5.114 (full edition + 192 khz), WaveLab Lite, some plugins...and that's about it. WaveLab Lite seems a little too lite for my taste (can't even use Windows filters for compression...for example, for making ADPCM wavs...) but Cubase is Cubase and a very good deal if someone isn't attached to a particular sequencer...

Ok, please pardon my ignorance one more time. With the supplied stuff, could you create a drum track?
That's my worry right now. Or do you need a full synth to do that?

I'll ask the question again, seeming this thread has been hijacked....

How do the converters on the "M" model sound? Specifically, against other cards/standalone converters?

*BEGGING* for an answer.....

I would like to know too. I have a multiface but if this can compare I would do a swap for the saved money. My boss is getting the M version on Tuesday and I will be able to try it out. sometime in the near future. I will post some ideas when I can A/B them.

I think is too new to tell, if the converters are as good as the ones used in ProTools like EMU claims, then they are good, but we still need to wait for the reviews ;)

I go tthe 1820M but I'm still wating fo rsome more parts for my new computer......

I ws tempted to buy the LExicon, but the fact that you can't use it with otehr software turned me off, en I bought the EMU 1820m.

I'm also wating for my computer parts.

And here is another one! YOU CAN USE OTHER SOFTWARE with the Omega Studio.

They even have config help files for *some* of the packages out there. Go here: http://www.lexiconpro.com/Omega/help.asp

This is the third time today I have had to point this out! :p Oh well, at least I can contribute something.

enough room in shuttle case ?

Sklathill:

Is there enough room in the shuttle for an 1820 (2 pci slots?)?

Thanks!

Should fit no problem. As long as the PCI is on the inside, the M versions will fit fine too...

Mine came in today. I'll be installing it tomorrow hopefully, have to help wifey build some basement shelves first. I'm a complete newbie with this stuff, but I'll pass on my experiences. Any other new guys thinking about this unit should watch for further news.
Wish me luck!

Hmm, been a little bit of time... He either loves it and can't pull himself away from recording with it, or he's so disappointed with it he can't find the strength to post...

...or it screwed up his system :(

Hopefully it's the first.

I got mine, and it is AMAZING! This unit is soooo solid...very nice.

I will post a full review soon.

Thank you,
Ben

It took me a day to figure out how to use it and not have problems, but it's pretty much sorted now. I've got no good point of comparison, but I like it! Now I need to get Windows Media Player to work again. Having two sound cards takes some juggling I guess.
See my posts in the Cubase section if ya want a blow by blow.

E-mu Forum

Hello,
I have just created a forum for users of E-MU products as I seen a need for a central location where users could help each other to get the most from their systems and software.

Look forward to seeing you all there soon,

Here is a recording I did with the 1820 yesterday, just a quick song I wrote.

I know what kinda "style this is" or who it sounds like.
Let me know!

here was the setup

Mic: Behringer B2, MXL v69Me
Sonar 3 with Waves Audiotrack
Antares Autotuner (you can definitely hear it, I went overboard cus I was just having to much fun!)
Waves L2 and Double tap
My taylor 710Ce

clip done w 1212m

this is a long clip, i took a beat mp3 and dropped it into acid 4 pro, then played guitar (les paul to reverb to tweed deluxe, di to behringer, with an analog delay just before the amp kicked on and off during the 20 min clip.

rendered to wav, then converted wav to vbr mp3 with lame
